I'd be eternally grateful if you could all measure the clearance between the tip of the scuttle, and the top of the plenum at the rear edge. I've fitted new engine mounts and it's sitting a bit higher than before, but having only just put the body back on I want to try and figure out what the limiting factors are each way before I adjust it - in other words, how much room have I got to clear bonnet. I can't easily refit the bonnet as all the brackets/hinges are in bits, and the bonnet is hanging off the roof!
Had access to one other S1 and the measurements were a fair bit different, but the engine mounts look like they've sagged on that one. I've got a good 10mm between the sump and the anti-roll bar too.

Thanks to anyone who can assist!

Hi Richard,
I was having a crafty sneak peak at PH on my OH's computer whilst she has gone Xmas shopping..... Don't tell a soul nono ( Can't find a :ssshhh: smiley )

Just measured up on Austin, engine mounts replaced about 18 months ago. I also fitted 3.25mm packers at the same time to raise it all up a bit more to help exhaust ground clearance:

Placing a straight edge along the top of the plenum ribs, the plenum sits higher than the top lip of the scuttle by 12mm. The rear face of the plenum is 92mm forward of the bulkhead.
The sump to ARB clearance is approx 20mm.
HTH

Look at me going all metric wink Must be the Eurotour effect.
Next thing you know, I'll be drinking litres..........

OH! Thanks for posting that photo Barry. biggrin

Just had a look and I've got 20mm above the ARB and if you lay a piece of wood on top I have 100mm down to the body

Thanks Barry! I'm about the same measurement from the ARB to the sump, but a bit taller on the engine to the body. Have measured the new mounts and they're definitely the same size as before. Have tweaked the rubber mountings and have got it sitting better, though it's still higher than it was before, but that could be because my old mounts were sagging of course.

Happy for now, cheers smile

Mine was touching the ARB before I did the engine mounts, you should be fine

Hmm, that has given me food for thought (at this time of the year it makes a change from thought for food at least!). I think I will check mine as well. The mountings are only a couple of years old but if there is a little more room then spacers like Glen has used might well be worthwhile. I think I can afford to lose a few mm at the top in exchange for reducing the potential damage caused by grounding. Even 3mm could well make a significant difference.
