Evening all,

I've got a 97 Astra 1.4 Hi-torq that we've had in the family for ages and has been as reliable as a very reliable thing.

Yesterday it died on me for the first time ever and would not re start.

I coasted to a parking spot, left it 8 minutes and it fired up again perfectly.

Then, having driven around the corner it died again as I stopped at traffic lights.

This time it started up again on the first try. That happened again on the way home.

I then stopped at the shops, where upon it didn't start the first two times but did on the third.

Having never had any sort of issues with this 'run around' I'm thrown as where to start with what seems to be an intermittent problem.

Are these know for anything in particular like this?

Thanks in advance..

Couple of things to try IMO. Cheapest option, fuel filter (when was it last replaced?). How much fuel is in the car as it may be dirt in the tank being picked up then falling back down when the fuel pump isn't running. More expensive option, cam/crank sensor. Only had one go on my wifes Corsa B but we were in the outside lane of the M25 doing 75 at the time it died. Called the AA but 10 minutes later I thought I'd try it & hey presto it started & we were able to complete our journey. Did it a few more times around town until I got it in to be changed.

Thank you very much for your reply.

After further research I changed the ignition amplifier and all seems good so far!
