Help please , worried about...
Discussion
a Car I saw today , it is a Sylva Striker (not sure which Mk) but on the V5 it is a 'Dutton' and first registered in 84 (iirc from looking at docs) , it has passed an MOT in the last few days with no advisories , it has been well put together as far as I can see , and drives very well , it rides better than my Cooper S !
Should I be worried about possible iva or any other issues ?
Should I run a Mile ?
thanks

Depends what you want, if you want to drive it on the road, it's probably best ignored. If you're thinking of racing it, then why not? If your plan is to strip it & re-build it to the IVA manual, then get it tested & registered properly then it's almost certainly cheaper than starting from scratch.
But there WILL be heartache along the way.

avoid...unless you get it so cheap that re-building it to IVA spec+IVA test will still safe you some money compared to a correctly registered one.
i guess the car is the usual oldschool live-axle striker with ford x/flow engine?
those are regulary for sale in top-nick for 3-4k....now start calculating!!

Why OH! Why would someone have a V5 with Dutton on when it's a Sylva?
In my world a Sylva has a better pedigree than a Dutton! go on post a picture and we will tell you what it is.
P.S. most Strikers use Ford uprights front and rear with the distinctive rocker style/inboard shocks at the front.

Thanks for all the input chaps , i want to run it on the road , if i was going to just race it , I would not be so worried.
it is up for 4750 , it does use ford uprights and it is running a 1400 k series with a hybrid ford/rover clutch !.
don't think it is fair to name and shame so i won't
the search will continue it seems , not many slyas about though , unless someone knows otherwise ?
cheers

why?
because the car was built after SVA/ IVA test was established.
so the builder could built it in a rather easy way, not following any actual rules (IVA), finally he also saved the fee´s for the test and re-test.
buying a dutton and scrap it is still cheaper than building a kitcar to the actual laws.
its totally illegal and such cars need to be avoided unless they cost next to nothing.
i always wonder why peole still buy and sell such cars?
would anybody buy a VW Golf with a Vauxhall Corsa V5c?

sounds like an older striker, ex-crossflow, rover k retrofitted?
live axle or IRS? nose and bonnet in 1 piece or 2 pieces?
IMO, thats about 2.5k too expensive..if it would be correctly registered maybe 4k...as "dutton" 2-2.5k
spot on chap , Spax all round and a 2 part nose/bonnetlive axle or IRS? nose and bonnet in 1 piece or 2 pieces?

Interesting thread, a car is currently up for sale that I owned and was built in the 90's from a Sierra was registered as a 1973 1100 Ford!!! I knew this when I bought it but it was as cheap as chips so not a worry.
It is was fitted with a 2 litre Pinto to which I attached Kwaki XR6 bike carbs.
I sold the car in May 2010 and the present seller is making wild claims about its power which is only about 50 bhp less.
Buyer beware! however it only becomes a problem if someone alerts the powers that be, but do they care as long as tax gets payed?

or if the police scans the no.plate or during a traffic control...or at the next MOT if the tester is one of the stricter ones, or your neigbour is jealous and reports the car to the dvla or police.......there are several chances loosing the registration and getting fined!!!
total wrong approach / opinion "as long as its taxed, everything is fine"
a striker built from a sierra? no way, ok..engine gearbox was taken from a sierra, but if its really an oldschool live-axle one, all other components should have been escort. the V5c is definately escort!!
anyway...toally illegal nowadays!!
