Keen to go racing - convert or buy complete?

Some friends and I co-own a tidy mk1 1.8 eunos. Currently has a TR lane roll bar with harness bar, bilsteins (not lowered), uprated bushes, induction and raised compression, out of date monaco pro seats and yellow stuff pads (normal hoses).
We fancy having a go at racing the car. To convert it for racing would require:
full roll cage
extinguisher
electrical cut off
seats
belts
braided hoses
(then consider gaz gold pros in the future - we couldn't race in a mazda championship as we're running a 1.8 not 1.6 so don't need them for trackday trophy etc unless we wanted to be more competitive)
This would set us back a fair few quid. Is the general opinion that it is worth converting the car or would it be better to sell ours, add a few extra quid and buy a race ready converted car?

Buying a car already converted for racing is the most sensible route unless you are sponsored!
The extras that go into a race car quickly add up to thousands not hundreds, unless you want to stay at the back in every race.
Beware of so called race cars that have all the choice bits changed.
My daughter raced a Porsche 924 that was bought as a championship race winning car...........even the engine was not correctly bolted in?? so where did the correct engine go?
Go prepared to take the car there and then when you look at it and remember rubbish drivers can be at the back despite the car being top notch.
Research is the first step.....................and you have taken that already.
