As a Christmas present, my sister in law has offered to take our kids for 3 days in January so my wife and I can get a very rare break from the kids. Great idea I thought!

We have thought Iceland, Sweden or Norway, but open to any suggestions, fancy somewhere a bit different as done most of the mainstream cities and breaks already.

Any suggestions?

Tallinn, Estonia. It's a lovely old town. I have stayed at the Merchants House boutique hotel inside city walls a couple of times. If weather is ok you can also hop on a ferry to Helsinki, Finland for the day

Another vote for Tallinn. Small enough to enjoy without missing too much in 3 days but a lovely place to see.

I was in Copenhagen last November, that was terrible, the place was dead untl lunchtime when the strippers woke up.

I then decided to go on the train to Malmo. That was even worse.

No wonder their suicide rate is so high.

Malmo was a Sunday morning. It was like the bit in 28 days later when he walks out of the hospital and theres no one about. Anywhere. At all.

If you go for the countryside and avoiding towns is what you want then go.

The other issue is tourist stuff is off due to the season so gardens etc are not accessible.
