Hi guys, I'm going to view 2 mk1 Tuscans at the weekend all being well, both are listed in the classifieds on here.

One is cheap with a Cat D history which (providing it checks out ok) I am not worried about, and it offers a lot more for the money (engine rebuild, decat, spoilers, geometry done etc), however I'm not sure about the paint colour. The other is £6k dearer and from a dealer, I love the colour but it appears bog standard albeit with FSH. As this has done 45k on (I assume) standard engine, should I be prepared for a rebuild soon, as most out there seem to have already had major engine work done.

The cheap cat d car offers loads and looks good but if I don't fall in love because of the colour then I could regret it!

Any general advice please?!?

Thanks,
TC

You need to drive both or at least drive the 2000 car and make sure you get on with it. A year 2000 car and a car built after mid 2001 can be very different in the way they drive. The 2000 cars are typically more go-kart like and sensitive.

If it's an older rebuild then it might not offer the piece of mind that you'd hope for. That being said, if it's £6K cheaper that's a pretty good "just in case" budget to have knocking around.

Thanks for the words, is the difference in handling down to spacers, tweeks etc (i.e. can early cars be adjusted?)

The rebuild in the cheaper car was to red rose spec I am told, but it was done early on and has done at least 20,000 miles since, so you are correct in that it can't be classed as a fresh build.

I'm really looking forward to seeing both! If the colours were the other way round I'm sure I'd only be going to look at one though..!!

Be careful.
Cheap cars are usually cheap for a reason.
It already costs a lot to get the superficial things like paint,
leather and carpets right.

If its the wrong colour pass it by.
Its a waiting game, it took me 9 months to find the car I wanted but worth it in the end.
I went for spec, colour outside and trim inside, with a view to change the interior if needed, I didn't need to.
Hope you find what you are after, but wait it will turn up.

Does anyone know about the history of T55CAN? It's a dark grey mk1 that has since had the private plate removed, it looks in very good nick but yet to take it out on the road, just wondered if it is known at all?

I dont know T55CAN, But i have just bought TS54CAN
I waited a long time to get the right one and paid top dollar for it but i know the history and everything that needed to be done has been done and i bought from a geniune guy.
Think it depends on budget and your mechanical skills.
While you Tuscan guys are on here, one question, there is some wires with a plug on the end on the tray passenger side any ideas?

Colin

ps sorry to hijack the thread.

My first Tuscan was a year 2000 with a rebuild in 2003 at 35k.
I bought at 70k and had to have rebuild straight away.
Early rebuilds had the same poor materials.

As said, you should get someone with knowledge to assist.

Speak to mat smith, he has worked on the cheaper one and is a top bloke, he has a fen boy honest blunt way about and won't wrap it up in bubble wrap. My type of person.

As for the colour, it's the best colour other than pearl red wink

I BOUGHT IT!

First Tuscan, the titanium grey (sort of) colour one. Colour looks amazing, interior is very smart minus a couple of bits of trim that need looking at, and to top it off one of the carbon cans fell off on the sliproad from the M25 to the A12 frown

So now I have a throbbing right ear and a car that would wake up a whole city if booted at night (or anything over idle).

I can't wait to get it in the workshop to have a fiddle, check wheels and geometry etc (is a bit twitchy and vibrates) but I'm a happy boy.

Thanks for the advice, I just had to have it in the end, the Topaz Blue is a lot nicer in the flesh which was a pleasant surprise too for anyone in the same boat as me, but I preferred the darker one.

Cheers,
TC

Nice one! And you have all winter to tinker with it, sorting out all those little quirks.

Topaz Crystal is such an underrated colour. It looks lush in the sunlight (and snow!), although I may be a little biased...

Enjoy
