Is that potentially because old Merc drivers drive at about 20mph everywhere, whereas. BMW drivers drive much faster? wink
That was exactly what I thought
Merc's are so cruisey they make you drive slower, especially S classes. So it's probably true.. lol

Here's mine, it was posted on here a while back. I missed it the first time but got it the second time around. It's not as good as the pictures show, it has a few parking dings and the drivers bolster is pretty bad, but mechanically I sunk £1,500 into it and it drives like a new car. Love it. Will sort the cosmetics out later this year. The Sat Nav works, so does the CD changer, and it's quiet as an S should be. Bargain!

Looks great. lick

That's a lovely looking example - price is probably about right for it tbh as well. The gubbins tacked to the dash would have to go - does it no favours. Boot spoiler is a rare option - many people think it spoils the lines, but I quite like it. It categorically IS NOT a Final Edition! Spec is wrong, colour of interior is wrong. Not that it matters as this has a higher spec and lovely colour combo - it just bugs me...

I'd be very surprised if a remap gained you 30bhp (ignoring the fact the 360 is PS not BHP, so 355bhp to start with, 12+ years ago)

No mention of gearbox oil changes is only worry

That's a mega-barge! I always think that I would prefer to buy mechanically strong car that's a little tatty - they all need a tidy up to some extent so if you are in for a penny, you are in for a pound. If it drives like a new car as you say, then you can take your time on the cosmetic side of things. You can't do that if there are issues with the way it drives!

What's the 'thing' to the left of the stereo on the passenger side of things?

What a fantastic looking car. Has there been such a graceful car of that size? A design subtly that is lacking from modern Audis in my opinion. That's fairly big money given it's not astoundingly low mileage. Before you know it you will be at the evil 100k threshold. The gearbox really worries me on these as well.

I posted that one a while back. Can't recall when but it's been for sale a while. I do like it!

Any D2 S8 love out there ? My recent acquisition below

2001
4 previous owners (inc one plate change),
99k miles,
Gearbox rebuild in the last 10k miles,
Colour is TBC - no code in service book or spare wheel well

I'm lead to believe its a very rare non-sunroof model.

Currently at Motor Continental in Crouch End, North London, having the cambelt done, together with t-stat, water pump, rollers, pulleys etc, v-belt, new alternator, new front lambdas, gearbox and engine oil/filter change. Four new tyres and lower door trims also imminent.

Lots of knowledge and helpful peeps on the a8parts forum

Really lovely cars and that one looks perfect! thumbup

I must have one.
That has so much presence. Please keep us posted.

Lovely. But I reckon £1500 has been added on due to Folder Preparation Surcharges. That stripey lawn don't come cheap neither.

Great buy. What was the seller like to deal with? He often sells some interesting cars but they are ultra polished and obviously parked outside mansions in Hampstead

Looks shiny, agree about the wheels, but to replace the original monoblocks would be expensive. Wheelarch trims are missing, but doesn't seem an expensive car.

These, according to DVLA data, are getting really rare

In other news, just got another advisory-free 12 months on my 300SL-24; I bet it rains this afternoon.

Very cheap, so could be some problem lingering. Or it could be a bargain. Would be worth going to the expense of putting mono blocks back on. I think these will do well in the future value wise.

They should; I've had mine since 2006, bought for 5k. I've done 30,000 wonderful miles since and still recommend them to anyone who cares to listen.

Edited to add that I've a real hankering for some BBS RS wheels with gold centres for mine..

What do you think of the 300SL-24? There is one nearish by and I am tempted to view as I am busier than I thought I was this week!

I've had mine for four years, and having researched the model prior to buying it, I decided the 300-24 was the one for me.

It's more sonorous and free revving than the later 6 cylinder engines, and I think the earlier cars are better made and are nicer looking (all very subjective though).

My ideal car ( very early production model in silver with blue leather) came up. It has a 5-speed autobox and heated seats as a bonus and runs perfectly, despite its 137000 miles. Highly recommended.

This is a first series M104 engine, which is essentially an M103 with a 24 valve head. They don't have the wiring loom issues if later cars, but do need revving to get the best out of them; typical 80's multi-valve unit really.

I've obviously just joined the r129 'club' in the past month however very happy with the 300-24. As mickyv mentions, very free revving and sounds great, seems to be pretty decent on fuel too. Go and see it and see what you think, I doubt you'd be disappointed!
