Any thoughts on this SL 500: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...
It appears not to have a radio?!
I'm really no expert but to me that is my perfect SL, the right two tone colour combo, right wheels, black leather, amber indicators, early'ish car, 500 V8, sensible miles, sensible price. Stick a nice Becker Stereo in that and it would be perfect! Get it bought. It could of course be a rusty POS. It appears not to have a radio?!
Alternatively how about a twin turbo 300 SL with low guide price for auction on Sat?

Or, if you are just looking for something to tide you over whilst the W124 is painted how about a nice velour sporting C126 560?

There a couple of E23 BMWs being auctioned on Sat at the same place as well.

Looks exactly like my car. No stereo a plus point as you can install a Becker like I did ( was lucky enough to have a grand Prix with blue tooth and iPod integration hanging around) or you could go for one of the old school German Amazon specials linked to on this thread.
Could be a nice carm

The red SL is ex-4star iirc, could be interesting if the price was low enough and original wheels and steering wheel were fitted.

The background in the photos is certainly 4-Star. I'd think the wheels and s/wheel could be swapped easily enough, but the price would have to be right. 4941cc said:

A more elegant weapon from a more civilised age...

b) "could do with some minor cosmetic bodywork attention" would make me want to have a very very through look underneath and poke around, which may or may not be possible.
The gold 560 is another I would like to have a good look at. Unfortunately I can't get there this weekend.

They really are lovely old cars. I'm quite surprised to see it doesn't have stacked headlights, I can't remember seeing a 280SE 3.5 with this kind of headlight before - I had thought it was just the six cylinder cars which had them.
One of my uncles had a 280SE 3.5 when I was a lad. It was a very long time ago, so he must have been really quite young when he bought it. That had stacked headlights, white paint and cream leather seats. It had electric windows and I seem to think air conditioning too. It was a tremendously high spec car for its age. I loved the sound of the V8 and the view down the heavily sculpted bonnet is almost as good as a Silver Shadow. They have decent performance and brakes which makes them very drivable in modern traffic. They're an excellent classic, all in. This one seems to be have been significantly lowered though.

Unless it is very sheddy, that should make more than estimate. £6k is about the going rate for cars needing significant bodywork; £12k is more like it for good cars. I would like one but it would turn to brown dust living with me by the sea.One of my uncles had a 280SE 3.5 when I was a lad. I've never driven a Series III so can't contrast that to my X300 Double Six/XJ12

Unfortunately, the X300's improvements in fit go hand in hand with a reduction in the quality of the materials in the X300's cabin - the leather in all but the Daimler X300 (which retains the Connolly Autolux)isn't nice at all and is uncomfortably reminiscent of vinyl.
The leather in my Daimler certainly seems okay - didn't realise the XJ12 would be inferior in that regard. Even after twenty years the interior still seems an unusually sumptuous place to be!dbdb said:

I thought that V8=stacked headlight too. I wonder if this is a six that's had a V8 transplant? mickyveloce said:

Agreed on the roof but I like the wheels. Can't see a price either, not that I'm buying mind you.
edit: says open to offers
There are two on AT, this being one of them. This is up for 5200 ish, the other 4995. edit: says open to offers
I don't mind the roof, and the gearbox service is a wise move in these cars.

We've had a very similar looking 55 plate 325i manual touring for nearly 6 years now (second owner), and its been a brilliant car. In 6 years and getting on for 50k miles, all its needed (other than tyres and oil changes) has been a wheel bearing. Since it'll be a 10 year old car in a few months, I can also say that the E90 seems to be much more resistant to rust than the E46 too - my last E46 was rusting all over the place at 10 years old.BMW 330 touring, Manuel too!

Longest I've ever kept a car, and although its slightly dowdy looking in SE spec, I can't see us changing it any time soon.

I've only been to modern car auctions - do the cars generally sell for near the estimate?b) "could do with some minor cosmetic bodywork attention" would make me want to have a very very through look underneath and poke around, which may or may not be possible.
