Well i've taken the plunge and bought myself some retro barge goodness. Just picked it up and driven the 30 miles home.
No pics of my own at the moment but one from the original advert.
Gorgeous. No pics of my own at the moment but one from the original advert.
interesting to see our similar cars are only a plate change from each other, yet quite different in style.

Harry - any chance you could post a photo of a car(s) that you might possibly be considering selling in the future? You know, just for the theoretical interest of threadists.
You know, I drove the car earlier this afternoon and really love these cars! I know I'd be gutted selling it: there aren't going to be many 2 owner high spec examples about, particularly when I've done the bodywork and leather refurb that remains on the restoration. Mrs K has a new 520d touring arriving in 6 weeks. Instead of selling the s124 I think I'll get a little van instead to do the miles and dirtywork.Pic:
There's an LPG station 2 miles from my house, hmmm:

Almost 2 hours left to get the price up though.
£1,849.00 5 min left.Someone's got a good buy if it lives up to expectations
I'll add that I bought (and still have , and am now looking to let go) a black 525i e39 Sport, aside from that fact mine is an Sport so has all the M bumpers, sport interior and the 18" parallels its basically the same car.
I've had to replace :-
The ABS ECU - they die from heat £220
The Cam Cover - they warp and crack, then piss oil everywhere £350
The Aircon charge - an o-ring had let go £50
The CCV system hoses, and clear out the dipstick tube £100
The hose clip on the PAS resevoir £2
Having read up on the forums, it seems that all the above are common faults - so whilst the new owner thinks they have bargain, I think they probably have another £7-800 worth of work to go within the next year and thats if they do the work themselves.
Of course, mine is all done now and it drives very nicely indeed - but I'll be wanting nearer £3k for it as a result.
My advice, if you are thinking of buying an e39 cheap then allow an extra £800 - £1000 on top of your purchase price, or buy one which has been fully sorted.

Cooling refurb. Still popped a rear coolant hose, the only part I didn't change.
CCV
Centre drag link & other related bits.
Auto box service.
Welding to sill (hidden beneath plastic)
Hedgehog
22mpg
My point is, its a medium sized barge but a full size money pit. Definitely recommended.

That car has been up for a while. Note how the seats don't match the door cards: at some time in its past, somebody swiped what would have been a very nice sportline interior and left in its place standard chairs. So, not "totally original" at all.
I did notice the seat weren't Sportline but then it doesn't have the Sportline badge on the boot either so guessed maybe just Sportline suspension? I didn't notice the differing door cards though.... :blush:mickyveloce said:
I run my 129 on Pirelli P7's. They suit it so well, being compliant and quiet.
SLS is always an event, we've had one since new in 2010 and every mile is s pleasure, irrespective of speed or destination.
Yes very pleased with the P7's. Wasn't going to change them for a while because the budget Nexens from the previous owner were still ok and have a few other items to address first. In hindsight the Nexens were bloody awful. Corners felt nervous and quite noisey too. P7s as you say compliant, quiet and quite grippy. Certainly suit the character of the SL well.SLS is always an event, we've had one since new in 2010 and every mile is s pleasure, irrespective of speed or destination.
For the small amount you save on a cheap tyre like the Nexen it really seems penny pinching to consider them over something like the P7.
Not that I can afford it but I'd be lethal in a SLS! I'd be constantly pressing the throttle to produce that glorious sound!
