I fully expect a thread scuffle over these, and resultant purchases from this post
I suspect the proud owner of this egregious temple to Onan may himself be a wand of potentially record-setting proportions.I fully expect a thread scuffle over these, and resultant purchases from this post

Please don't tell me how easy it is to import from RoI to UK. All these cars are on the same land mass as me so I want to believe that importing one is a cumbersome, bureaucratic and expensive process.
Insure it on the VIN. Drive it home. Get a MOT. Register and tax it (£55 plus £240).I had the 129 MOT'd today (by pure fluke I checked last night when it expired and it expired tomorrow). Pass with no advisories. And according to my mechanic i twas a "proper" MOT: "it even went to the MOT station". Although I am told that the tester asked whether the odometer was right and whether I really wanted that mileage put on the certificate (244,514).

This just seems incredible to me... £1500 for a Northstar 4.6ltr V8.

Yes, I now realise that I want one of those.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-X-CADILLAC-SEVILLE-...
"The last long drive it had was around 350miles with an average mpg of just under 25mpg."
The picture of the dash shows an average mpg of 11.5, lol.

I can't imagine they're much good to drive and likely ill-designed for the wet british roundabout.
As a kid they were proper cool, but now they just seem a bit rubbish.
If they were RWD they would probably be a great laugh for a cheap price, especially if a supercharger fell on the engine. As a kid they were proper cool, but now they just seem a bit rubbish.
But FWD... ah well.

I did like that "The last long drive it had was around 350miles with an average mpg of just under 25mpg."

But also I've seen trip computers that have just been reset throw up some really odd numbers.
Jeremy Clarkson didn't think it was bad on Top Gear. And he described the engine as a masterpiece.
And in fairness, it would hardly be worse to drive than the Lexus LS400s and whatever that people seem to like around here. Plus it's got an engine that can run all day without water at 100 degree Fahrenheit outside temperature and in theory can do 100k miles between services.
You'd obviously never do either of those things, but there is something special about having a Northstar. It was a very, very impressive piece of mechanical and electrical engineering when it was released circa 1991 or 1992.
As I remember, it's the first system which monitors steering position, brake position, atmospheric pressure, ambient air temperature, gear change preferences and the myriad other things that cars measure nowadays simultaneously. The idea being that it can set itself to your ideal preferences.
It's probably a bit clunky and outdated now, but Northstar is still special. I'd like to own a Northstar because I consider it quite special and interesting.

And I don't get the baked potato comment in that review. I was in one around 15 years ago and it was very comfortable. The owner (a good friend of more than 20 years) had just gone from a Lexus GS300 and much preferred the Cadillac for comfort and to drive.

Totally off topic, and I hope you will excuse me, but the diversity of knowledge in this thread is greater than pretty much anywhere else I know. Does anyone know where this bridge is? The photo appears in issue 216 (6/1988) of the MB magazine in aller welt in an article entitled "Bridging the Gap". Irritatingly, it is the only photo without a caption and there is no explanation in the text.
Being a sad sack, I am quite into bridges. Here is me and my SL at the Garabit and Millau viaducts. My wife still recalls with pleasure the 180 mile detour to see the Kylesku Bridge. All of which makes me feel like a road trip.
