Yummy! A black XJR for close to £2,000? Won't be around for long I'd have thought
Huge amount of car for the money!

Hell yes, I think you have thread philosophy down to a tee. Especially the £72 stickers. I thought it was just me: unable to find an aesthetically satisfactory "GB" sticker, I had my own made up.
Definitely!

You have a lovely looking XJR too.

XJ6s really are fantastic, but in a world obsessed with fuel economy (my grandfather keeps talking about purchasing a new car with better fuel economy despite the fact he probably does 1000 miles/year) people don't want them. It's hard to stand a the pumps so often and pour large wedges of cash into the tank, I had many noodle meals trying to run mine as a student.
They are thirsty certainly, but no worse than a comparable Mercedes or BMW of their age.
12.9MPG over 1500 miles certainly felt pretty brutal. Although I did manage to average almost 19 after that.

The Insta-MPG display showing 4 whilst gliding towards licence-losing speeds at a surprising rate, was always treated as amusement rather than the warning it ought to have been though.

I'm not saying I won't be back in a Jag because I certainly will, but just that I see how people can become fixated on fuel economy to the detriment of both enjoyment and overall cost. And it certainly helps us barge fans out.

Glad to get page 78 out of the way. Some of those photos were causing my tech some issues!

So true. The thing with fuel cost is that it is so very visible to people. They feel every fiver as it's converted into greenhouse gas. The other costs they don't have to face so starkly, so they ignore them.

I find the same thing is true of buying things with cash rather than with a card. I try to spend cash rather than use cards these days since that way I am much less likely to fritter away boggling quantities of money on placeless ephemerata that I don't even remember buying. Same thing, I guess.

I really think I must drive like a grannie though; mine rarely drops below 19-20 mpg. I was once overtaken by a man on a horse, but in my defence I was waiting to turn right...

Dammit that XJR is absolutely perfect. £2k with a brave haggle would have you a very lovely car indeed.

I can't believe there isn't something wrong with this car.

From the research I did before buying the SL good straight 6 examples were £3k and v8s were at least that for a ropey one - if this is still here on Friday when money is passing through my account (legitimate) I may have to indulge.

If I had the funds I'd be having a look at that tomorrow night to be honest - it's only an hour from work... The Mrs would truly murder me though!

Tot think I could have put the csh from my 230E into that rather than a pedal bike is making me question my sanity somewhat.

With 110+ views per hour on that eBay advert I doubt it'll still be around. Surely that's far too cheap?!

This one looks good. Lots of history too and I think the seller has photographed all of it! smile

good grief, someone buy this so that I can't. Save me from myself, please.

I have the money to buy it, but not to take care of it as well as it deserves

Loving the jag talk.

I'd appericate a bit of input, do I stick with my x300 XJ6 manual or twist and get a x308 xjr?

I love the six but I sometimes wish it had (much) more poke, but a manual xj is something so different I also like the idea of getting it into tip top shape.

How much did it cost to get the suspension/steering bushes done? This is next on my list.
£415 for the bushes, a further £370 for the water pump/thermo/valley pipes. Supercharger off job.

Have you tried Classic Capsule ? (think they're on eBay only now)
They do some great period car stickers. I've previously bought a nice Lucas white on black GB sticker from them.

One of each would be ideal (If you have the money and space)
Love the idea of a manual XJ but the auto really suits the power and chassis set up of the XJR.

Flooring the gas pedal after a 50mph motorway roadworks stretch gets you into licence losing territory very quickly if you are not careful.

What a site! Brilliant.

I wanted a 'GB' sticker like the classic German 'D' sticker, so I did it on a white oval with a black border in font DIN 1451.

That XJR looks lovely, a bit crusty round the arches by the looks of it but not major by any means.

What could possibly go wrong?

If I didn't value my marriage I'd be on it like a tramp on chips.

Being sold be a trader though, wonder what he paid for it!?
