Best smoker barges 1-5 large [vol8]
Discussion
Sadly, I think the Jag may be on it's last legs now, a sad end to an old beauty that has soldiered on to nearly 200,000 miles. Well, not quite, but near enough for me. The transmission has been slipping for a while now, it hesitates under full throttle and feels flat on kickdown, as it shuffles gears and tries to work out what to do. Knowing the process for changing gearbox oil on these is costly and complex, I grumbled and considered that, as the car rides out it's final miles, I'll just see how it goes. I got a message for 'transmission fault' on the dash the other day, but it only stayed for a second before going, and the car did another 40 miles without issue.
"So fking what", I said. I've already decided that the car won't see another easy MOT (although this last MOT wasn't a bed of roses because of the garage's fk ups). I'm picking up a T595 Daytona on Saturday too, so that's fun and frivolity covered. What am I going to replace the Jag with? A Toyota Prius. A sensible car that is cheap to run, good at doing boring drives to work and isn't a clattering diesel. I need something sensible for driving the bairn around in, and ploughing more money into an old Jag isn't the way forward.
Even if I did sort the gearbox out (and there are no guarantees), I'd have to tackle the rear suspension and the front subframe V mount for the next MOT. Thanks, but no thanks.

Thanks cat220. Good to hear of your bork-free year of E55 ownership, a counterbalance to the £2,500 the vendor of the one I posted says he's spent in the last 12 months (my obvious fear is that something ruinous is now going wrong & he's cutting his losses... though 1-5 barge territory is no place for a half-empty glass).

Who are you, and what have you done with the real Baryonyx?
Shame about the Jag, but a Prius? Really?
You know, I really do like the Prius. I really wanted a mk1 Honda Insight to play the 'what mpg can I do on the way to work' game, but having children means two seaters are out of the question (fk!). I've looked at the CRZ, but that's still pretty pricey. The new Honda Insight is also nice, but the Prius seems to be regarded as the better car. I just want something simple, modern and functional for getting to work in, and ferrying the young 'un in. I'd love to say that'd be another barge, but since the car will be purely for function rather than form, I'm steered away from another 20mpg beast. Shame about the Jag, but a Prius? Really?
I absolutely love barges, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't motorbikes that keep me up at night. And a hybrid suits me because I don't want a diesel - I'm firmly in the camp that thinks you either save now and pay later when a diesel blows up, or pay up front at the pumps with a petrol. A 730d may be on the cards in years to come, but for now a Prius will do.
Don't weep for the man you've known, for come Saturday I'll be on the back of this...

Not wanting to piss on your chips but £2500 could be routine servicing. 'B' service is around £4-500.Another thing to check is when the plugs were last done!! It's a £400 job at an Indy. Rust wise, it's been mentioned by my CLK was just starting to go at the jacking points.
As Cat says, discs aren't as expensive these days, mine were £60 a corner, pads are a touch pricey. Sadly wishbones are still expensive so be aware. (180 a side)
If it's a good one, and it looks a good one, that'll be great. The noise is ridiculous! Performance is epic. Miss mine!! (CLK)

I can never remember which way it goes - in Mercedes speak is Wxxx a saloon and Sxxx an estate?
W is saloon and S is estate. However I am sure that W123 estates were actually known as W123T originally and that the S came along with the 124 and that W123Ts have been retrospectively called S123.
Buggered if I can find where I read it though, so I could be making it up.
Well it looks like I've gone and bought a P38 Range Rover Vogue off ebay completely unseen.... What could possibly go wrong?
Seems like a good example, most of the common jobs appear to have been taken care of. Fingers crossed all will be well when I head south to collect it next week!
Will come back and add some pictures once I've picked it up

You've got it almost correct. However I am sure that W123 estates were actually known as W123T originally and that the S came along with the 124 and that W123Ts have been retrospectively called S123.

S started with the S210.
Even the very last 124T still had T stamped into the VIN tags.

V8 or diesel......?
Not sure it's a barge at ALL, but I accidentally just bought a Volvo V70 D5 that was for sale on my road.
Genuine accident, not planned, no idea why.
Thought that might be appreciated in here more than anywhere
