Thanks, thats what I really need to hear, makes it easier to reconcile however then there is another voice that says, it's survived since 1996 so is it really going to suddenly die!
They are very resistant to rust are the P38s, weakness is all down to the primitive ECU/s quality/design plus air suspension issues. Engine pretty good but V8s prone to cylinder slippage past a certain ageP

to be fair living in Scotland I've always had to travel for cars. Touch wood I've always been lucky, the e55 was great to drive back from London. I'd be more concerned about being stranded on the hard shoulder with that range rover, I know nothing about them however being the eternal optimist I'd like to think the 4.6v8 is a reliable unit.
Ho ho ho. Unfortunately the bigger a Rover V8 the worse it gets...The engine blocks crack, seems to happen to most of them eventually. Often sold because they're losing coolant by the gallon.

Thanks (again) all the info I need to be able to say "I'm out."
Weakling! That's not the spirit of the thread; where's your pluck, man? Your Empire-building spirit? Your phlegm? Your spunk? Obviously, I wouldn't touch it with yours, but nevertheless...
With MB 190s seeming to be the mini-barge du jour, how about these two for examples of a) crackpot pricing, b) rubbish ads, and c) in one case, a pretty unusual white paint/grey leather combo that can't appeal to many.
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C483561 Dodgy spoiler. 'Great car you will love it' £4.5k
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C643775 'Probable low mileage'. 2.6, but unforgiveable colours and optimistic pricing at £3250.

On the other hand, this I like.
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C626678 Needs some jobs doing, but at around £1500 could be a decent buy for someone.

I'd prefer a leather interior however that looks good. These really appeal as a nice compromise between a r129 and w124. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C626678 Needs some jobs doing, but at around £1500 could be a decent buy for someone.

Is that a 540i?
Doesn't seem that long ago that smart 500s were this price but this looks very appealing all the same

For a professional man, of discerning taste - and even as an avowed BMW man such as yourself - I simply can't see that situation lasting for too long. <Irritating Irish woman> 'Go on, go on, go on' <End irritating Irish woman>
You know it makes sense to touch all the German bases!

I sold it about 3 years ago (IIRC) for £8500 and the chap I sold it to spend about another £6K at Bird's having a Quaife LSD, Bilstein suspension and other stuff fitted...but it still looks 'normal' and it has only done 5K miles since.
If ever there was a true Q-car this has got to be it. To the untrained eye it could pass as a 520i... but with the above plus a near 300-horsepower 4.0L V8 up front...
I might even re-badge it

I saw a really good looking C124 being put through automatic car wash at SuperU Vernoil-Le-Fourrier this morning. It was on French plates but I exchanged a nod with the driver as I rumbled past in the estate toward the sans plomb. I do like them a lot so I'd never do the revolving brushes with one I don't think.CharlesdeGaulle said:

I'd love to try an E36. An AMG straight-6 sounds right up my street.

I love Atlantis blue. A bit of de-chavving and this would make a nice car.
