So I made the mistake of recently selling my immaculate mk5 gti and was looking for an equally mint edition 30 mk5 gti to replace it, or a tidy e46 m3 sub 9k

I got fed up of feeling cheeky borrowing a car from my relatives so decided to pick up a cheap but pokey golf mk4 or 328i e36 something along those lines. Sub £1500.

Lots of high mileage 4 motions and 328is crossed my path before I woke up on a day off to discover a fairly local golf 4 motion 2.8 v6 in dark blue 99k miles, haldex serviced, good service history etc etc, full black leather, sunroof, but an early x reg 2000 model with a lot of previous owners .... £1500

So I go to looks and it's the typical nice tidy looking car needing a few jobs doing and the owner came down to 1250 after I found the following faults;
Rear lecky window only goes down 4" before it decides not to go any lower (might have a look no Biggy)
Thermostat bad as car not getting to temp (I replaced it for £4.70 with part from eurocarparts and is now perfect)
Only one working key
Mirror cover cracked
Wheel centre caps chipped and painted pealing (resprayed those ok now)
Central locking issue (see below)
Rear wiper not working nor wash wipe (rectifying with 2nd hand unit off ebay tomorrow)

Right well, basically the car unlocks and locks fine but when driving around the car just locks and unlocks the drivers door if I'm the only dweller that journey. When the engine is shut off the car unlocks.... Fine must be anti hijack locks

If a passenger gets in the front the circumstances change, their door locks and unlocks around 10 mph and drives me mad as it seems to lock and unlock more than neccissary ?!

Also my drivers door is the only door that doesn't activate the interior lights when getting inside the car and that the micro switches are a pig to replace due to having to remove the window glass etc etc?! The door never shows as still open on the dash warning icon though so maybe it thinks it's constantly closed?!

I hate anti hijack locks anyway is there any way I could disable this and that the centrL locking may work as normal?! My friend has vancom but says I need to find a code for disabling antihijack locking?!

Any help greatly appreciated

P.s don't intend to keep the car too long so will never sell it for what it's really worth like this😂😫😓😰😡
That vr6 sounds lovely with a AHEM drilled airbox

Its a vagcom setting relating to convenience i think.

have a google for it - I'm sure theres plenty of documentation regarding how to disable.

this link will help - http://uk-mkivs.net/topic/54935-door-autolock-feat...

Check the wiring between door and pillars on all doors. Old brittle wiring breaks easily when opening and closing the doors. The circuitry in the locks is also susceptible to broken contacts/soldering.

Also, doors randomly lock\unlock\lock\unlocking is due to failures in the door lock modules. Can also tie into interior light problems. Easy but time-consuming to fix.

Cheers for the help

Ive spent some time on the other jobs yesterday like the windscreen wiper and rear electric window fault and ive repaired both for just £23 in bits the rear window only cost £0.94 to repair as i found a "spreader plug" had come out and the glass just needed lining back up into its regulator support and resecuring with the spreader plug.

Pretty sure my passenger side lock module needs replacing as its that one that keeps fidgetting up and down either side of 10mph where as the others do not. The interior light goes on and off when opening that door fine though?!
The drivers door does not activate the interior lights however it does lock fine
Maybe both from lock modules required some loving?!

There's a firm on eBay that sells MKIV pattern lock mechanisms made by 'SKV', they are around £20 and much cheaper than the OEM part (circa £180?). I bought and fitted one last May and it's been fine. They were recommended on a couple of VAG forums.

Pig of a job the first time you do it - heed all the warnings about not unscrewing the key barrel retaining screw too far!

Top few here. Apologies, the last one I bought was £20 but it was a back door lock, seems like the front locks are now £32.50.
