When you book the speed awareness course on the internet you give your driving licence number and then at the course you have to provide your driving licence so they can check you against their records that already has your licence number. If you dont produce your licence you cannot take the course.Fact.

I would have rather not got caught doing 80 in a 70 but would rather pay £85 and attend the course than 3 points and a £100 fine.I could book the course close to my home so convenient.

To be honest I thought it was interesting and learned quite a lot as I have been driving for 38 years and cannot remember all the highway code and the updates since I got my licence.

The 2 guys taking the course were ex police advanced drivers who obviously had a job to do but were also quite amusing at times.I am 55 years old and most of the other people on the course were older than me that surprised me.

I dont think the course is a cash cow as I was told at the course that out of the £85 cost of the course £50 went on running the course and the rest £35 was used by the local council to provide florescent vests for school children cycling to school, bicycle training at school and other child safety related help so overall the things I learned on the course and the help for the children £85 seamed good value.

The OP's story is manifest BS. What a rubbish attempt at trollery.
Looks like you're the troll.
On what basis? You may be gullible enough to fall for a manifestly false tale, but don't get upset if others know BS when they see it.

I'm with you. B72. Having attended a course over 3 years ago and just had to register for 2 more, I can vouch for not being able to even register without your driver number, let alone attend the course without a licence as proof of ID.

What do mean "register for 2 more"?

Regarding the driving licence: From earlier in the thread (but note the OP wasn't referring to a SAC anyway):

...I have a speed awareness course tomorrow. Letter states 'it will be a requirement to produce a valid driving licence'

But then states 'if you do not have your valid driving licence in any form then you can attend with two other forms of ID listed below

I said 'a course...and...2 more'. I've got a speed awareness course on Jan 16th and a driving awareness course on the 30th.

Maybe you'll find something in the courses to help.

I think the proof of the 'cash cow' tag was the meeting minutes where the authority declared they would have to catch more drivers and broaden the lower and upper qualification speeds for course attendance BECAUSE of a funding shortfall.

I enjoyed the SAC I went on before, this one was for a simple lapse in concentration through an average speed check 40 zone through roadwaorks on a Sunday afternoon. The DAC is for running a red light...I'm pretty sure in hindsight I moved to let an ambulance through but I was in the middle of moving house when the NIP came through and ran out of time to appeal....
