Off to view an Omega 2.6 auto estate later, just as a general winter shed, tip type vehicle. It's very cheap, fairly low mileage. I have no idea what I'm looking at mind, how are these 2.6 units for big miles and general durability? It has had the water pump and cam belt done apparently, is there anything else to look out for? Concerns being the autobox really and it being rendered useless in an expensive manner. Any idea of running costs would be appreciated too.

Many thanks!

Have a look around here:-

Not had an Omega myself (always the older Senators) but club members that do have them say that cam covers can warp & leak oil making people think the head gasket has gone. Bit of a pain to work on the v6s by all accounts too. Autobox should be fine albeit it may need an oil & filter change. What sort of money we talking?

Ive had one , 2.6 V6 Elite automatic with 110k , and coming from a guy thats had MR2 Turbos , Supra`s , GTO TTs etc , the Omega was the best car ive ever had. Big and comfy , heated seats , brilliant car , had it about 3 or 4 years and it needed nothing in that time except the locking mechanism on the passenger door , £20 off ebay and fitted myself.

The only other thing i remember was the alarm siren , there was a battery in them but it was a sealed unit (some guys had disconnected them and baked them in the oven for a while to loosen the sealant) and when that started to wear out after 10 years it would sometimes set the alarm off when you started the car. And the fix i found online on vauxhall forums was to just disconnect it (which would set it off) and throw it in a bucket of water , end of problem.

Also passed its last MOT in my ownership with a clean bill of health , unfortunately i got a driving ban and sold it for £425 !

Never had a problem with the box whatsoever , but it was quite a thirsty beast
