I regret not buying a universal sink plug................ !!

Battery pack not a necessity, if you have it you use it, if you don't you think in advance !! Used it once in seven weeks.

International SIM card, errmm, works some places not others !!

Bundle of USD - useful.

Some clothes/bag ideas are the best i think, just makes life a little easier every day.

Keep your hair short - you can wash it under the tap in McDonalds !! wink

Quite tempted by this:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/wondercube-is-e...

I also have a lot of want for this:

http://www.ellusionist.com/pyro-handheld-fireshoot...

It isn't particularly useful, but who doesn't want to shoot fireballs from their hands....

Not quite in the league of many of you, but I recently acquired this combination of gadgets and it's serving me well.

I used to have a Maglite Solitaire on my keyring, but the light wasn't that impressive, so I've replaced it with this

And to save me carrying aroung a cable with me all the time, I have this...

I would like an adults version of the kiddy ride on suitcases. Superb for racing fellow bored passengers around the waiting lounges & down the rampways.

They could do them with V8 or turbo dump valve noises, spoilers & blinged up wheels. Maybe they could have regenerative wheels to charge your phone up as you ride along too.

Have you forgotten the 100ft of paracord?
Dental floss is a better alternative for flying with or the urban enviroment, plus its minty fresh, its about 20lb test.

Paracord is very over rated.

I travel quite a lot with Business, having been stuck many times due to bad weather, mechanical failure, natural disaster (volcanic ash), Industrial action.
I travel with the following items I consider as essentials.

o.pack of polos or other mints.
o.1x Pot Noodle & plastic fork (useful for a simple snack as long as you can get a pint of boiling water).
o.10400mAh Backup Battery (provides 4x full recharges to an iphone (or 2 full o.charges for my iphone and 2x charges for my Nexus-7)
o.Small Wifi Router / Personal Hotspot (Argos £39.99)
o.Gerber Multitool ( and Gerber "Shortcut" scissors )
o.Selection of cable ties
o.small AA sized CREE torch
o.International power adapter and dual USB output
o.micro USB stick with digital images of my passport, birth certificate, driving license, Home Address, CC & bank account numbers, Emergency contacts Plus images of any boarding passes or E-Tickets for whatever journey im taking

  • Before anyone picks me up on the fact I have CC and Bank details together with personal data, I use the Kingston "dataSecure" application to ensure the data is encrypted **
I also carry a laminated A5 card with emergency contacts / address information with me.
Respect

This is a list I shall be emulating
Over the Christmas Period I have added the following ...
a Microfibre Towel
Mini Combination Cable Lock (see previous posts)
28x Co-Codamol 30/500mg Tablets
28x Antihistamine Tablets
28x 1000mg Amoxicillin Tablets
7x Constipation Tablets
7x Dioralite/Electrolite Tablets
small tube Superglue
needle and thread (extra strong cobblers thread)
Digital and hard copy of Global Travel insurance
no first aid kit? at the very least some plasters, medical tape, dressings (refer to BS8599-1 for further guidance & BS8599-2 may also be relevant)

Knowledge is more important than stuff.

That's a proper list there similar to what I've carried (though without the USB stuff/digital stuff).

One thing you might consider instead of your cobbler's thread is Lacing Cord.

It's super strong and incredibly light, can be used for all manner of tasks.

To add to the list, in 3rd world regions I've also carried a small medic pack (typically 10" x 6" x 4") with various syringes/needles/cannulas/sutures/wipes etc - donate these to local medics upon departure.

A pump spray bottle of DEET was always a winner, as were a few elastic bands and some tin foil so you can up-size AAA batteries to fit an AA device and vice-versa.

Finally, a good book, one that you can read again and again and again, though I suppose in this kindle age that is redundant now.

Are J Pillows really that good?

All my ideas have been covered by others.
The only other thing I like when travelling home from somewhere hot is a set of baggy lightweight trekking Chinos, with zip on/off legs. Good enough for most airport lounges when zipped on.

Specialist travel shops will sell them, but M&S also do a version as well.

Got a battery pack from amazon for about £15 and also bought a 4xUSB EU plug.. means I can charge 2 phones and a tablet and my aforementioned battery pack without using any travel adaptors.

Why two? Genuine question not being funny.
I seem to remember many years ago my old man having what he called his Israel and South Africa passport. As A stamp from one of those two countries knackered you for getting into many other countries.
Do you have two now for similar reasons?

If one passport is away for a visa you can still travel on the other. Pretty simple really.
