I used to have:

Fiat 500 TA. For running around London. No road tax, no congestion charge. A nice place to be.
Maserati Quatroporte. For long distance, continental cruising.
Hawk Stratos replica. To attempt to kill me and others.

That was the perfect combination for my circumstance. However, the last two on the list have since been sold.

I think my ideal on a sensible but aspirational budget would be:

BMW E92 M3 - daily driver
Formula 3 car - for the track
Ferrari 612 - GT car for euro trips and the odd Friday

My ideal with the funds I have now would be simply what I've got plus a GT car:

BMW E90 320d - current car owned for 3 years
Lotus 2-Eleven - current car owned for 2 years
Maserati 4200 - GT car - not owned, but I'd like one

And with a lottery win if I was limited to 3 cars:

BMW E92 M3 - strange this, but I can't think of a 4 door that offers more. Maybe a Maserati Quattroporte, but they're a bit big and heavy for me.
F3000/F1 car - obviously! to race in historics.
Ferrari F12 - surely the ultimate GT?

My current 3 car combo is:

F10 M5
TVR Cerbera
Merc B Class

I live in Central London and use my Oyster card once a month. Driving is far more pleasant than a sweaty, cramped carriage.

I quite like my present garage, integrale Evo2 (albeit needing work), Elise S2 and Hilux.

In a perfect world and no cash restraints I think I'd be looking at:
Integrale Evo2 - in good nick
Exige S2
Land Rover Defender 5.0 V8 Icon.

We have an XC90 which ticks all the practical boxes and I'm looking for something more fun to replace the 325 to go with it.

In an ideal world I'd have:

A sports car - 911 (Basic carerra fits the bill in terms of looks, fun and performance whilst still being useable on the road.)
A classic - Mk1 RS2000/Mexico (to relive my rally following youth) or classic 911, Singer if money isn't an object.
A family bus - The XC90 is perfect for this.

I agree re the E92 M3. It's the only 4-door sports saloon (if such a category exists) that I would buy.

I've got an R53 Mini I leave at my folks (ran out of driveway space), so discounting that it leaves 3 at home, which covers pretty much everything

530d auto tourer - fast enough as a daily, loads of space, ideal if you're not in the mood
Z4 3.0
550 Maranello

The Z4 probably gets driven the least, as if it's a decent Sunday it'll be the 550 that I take

New Range Rover Sport 7 seater as the people carrier/tow car/snow plugger and a Aston Martin Vanquish as the comfy daily GT. The tough decision comes with the 3rd car, do you go for a P1 hypercar for bragging rights/track days (not many tracks in Scotland) or a 458 spider for B road blasts...

After the recent addition in June this combo now works very well. With more than one car being usable for many of the following too.
Tracks, Grand tours, DD, Occasions, Dump and Shopping run, mpg, Safety in adverse conditions, mental performance fix etc.
Golf mk7R

CaymanS

GTR - fettled

If were down to 2 cars, then the GolfR with either would be the choice.

In a dream world,

RS6 Avant, for load lugging, long distance, carrying people, and to by my wifes car.
Super 7 160 or Roadsport, for running round town, short trips to the shops and the like, along with Sunday blasts, basically my daily drive if I don't have to cover more than 30 miles and a toy at the weekend.
BMW S1000RR (for me) and Burgman 400 (for my wife) (I know it's 4, but I think the two bikes count as one car).

In the real world:

Audi S4 Avant (As above. My wife loves fast Audi's and estate cars.)
NC MX5 2.0, not a Caterham, but a good, usable, fun sports car in the real world.
KTM690 Duke (for me) and Burgman 400 (for my wife)

I have the MX5 and the 400, look at an S4 next year. Now I just need to find a way to get the cash for the KTM...

L322 RR for my daily. Best resolved shape RR, and Im too stingy for a petrol. Becoming more Partridgean in my old age and hankering after a Lexus... big, newish hybrid LS please.

Q5 for the missus, purely because she's too image conscious for a Tiguan or similar soft roader.

The weekend toy is the tricky one. Im not loaded and live in London, so:

-mk1 Elise

-986 Boxster S

-BBR turbo mk1 MX5

-Caterham/ Westie

-manual E46 M3 with sorted brakes and quality aftermarket exhaust

-trackday focused 944 turbo

-mk3 MR2 and a nice holiday

This has been my finest combo to date. I think even with limitless funds, a "better" version of each would be in my garage.
