for years we have been lucky enough to be able to run 3 cars between myself and my wife and have been through various combinations, always managing to have a "toy" in the garage...

At the moment we have an SLK 55 AMG as a toy, a MK1 MX5 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee as daily cars. seems to work well as a combination for us... the MX5 does get a lot of use though!

What's your perfect 2 or 3 car combination?

Daily - Lexus GS450h - hybrid waft-mobile with lots of gadgets
Toy - Honda S2000 - small, open top, revvy and fun

Either of the cars I find a complete antidote to the other. First time in ages I've gone for more than 6 months without browsing the classifieds looking for inspiration!!

At my kinda price range, I'd probably go for:

  • E39 540i or M5 daily - great comfy, long-legged cruiser with plenty of kit but also absurdly quick and sound fantastic when the mood takes me.
  • Something like a 3.0si Z4 for weekend plays, or perhaps a Boxster.
  • My own E36 328i track car can stay, but it might morph into an M3 if funds allowed!
You could do this lot for between £7k for the "budget" options or maybe £15k for the full monty, which doesn't sound bad at all smile

With more budget, the track/weekend car would probably come together and be an Atom 300. E39 would probably stay. Just want one, however much money I had to play with!

For me it'd be:

Range Rover - for general day/day duties and practicality
Ferrari F12 - for speed
Aston Martin DB6 Volante - for posing

Big quick diesel estate (535d, E350d etc...) for distance/economy/daily boring stuff..
Big flash V8 sporty thing (Corvette, 360/430, Aston) for trips, blats and possible daily when fancy.
Rotatable track orientated thing, but could be anything from GT40 rep to Caterham.

I'm quite happy with mine - for what I need:

VW T4 van - used for work and play regularly carries a ton plus but has been converted with 6 quick release seats, tinted windows remapped to 148bhp etc

Supercharged MX5 - great fun but practical too (compared to a Caterfield)

RX7 - had a V8, still have a twin turbo but I will build a V8 with circa 300bhp perfect for getting the kids to school.

Without getting ridiculous this time.

Daily: Mercedes CLS (W219). Probably a diesel and automatic version (320 CDI pictured).

Shop nipper: Renault Clio Trophy 182 (or an earlier 172).

Toy: Lotus Elise 190.

We currently have

MINI Clubman S (Mine)
Nissan Note (1.5D, Tekna) (Wifes)
1981 VW Camper 2.0AC (Fun)

But I am definitely missing a two seater. Out of my back catalogue, I would want a mint AW11 MR2 T bar.

1. Discovery 4 HSE. Family wagon.
2. BMW M135i. Daily/fast road fun car, probably mapped and an LSD added for good measure.
3. E46 M3 track toy.

We just need a luxo barge of some description for daily driving duties in the UK, though my fiance has a crosstour that i make use of. Other cars are a 911 turbo and all out track biased westfield - both are very very quick and I cant think of anything that goes as effortlessly fast or as entertaining as those two cars.
