Since we had kids we havent actually been abroad whilst they were all little ones ( apart from the honeymoon in Newyork without them lol )we have been to centre parks and the lake district many times instead..
So just doing made up man maths in my head I calculated 4k costs (with no research whatsoever...) for a family holiday
for next year and I promised somewhere hot, villa, pool, waterpark and beaches nearby.. Great.. 3 kids and the wife happy..

Then start to look at booking and prices in the school holiday period....

fk me!

2 weeks in Costa Dorada is coming in at 8k including villa, flights booked in advance with budget airline, hire car and waterpark passes for one week and that isnt including food and spending money surely I have made some schoolboy error in my calculations..

amazing 3 or 4 bed villa with pool in the south of France (Dordogne), 2 weeks, drive down through tunnel - should be easily doable for £4k

We do it every year.

Try James's Villas, had one in Cyprus some years ago.
Lovely 4 bed Villa (we had 4 adults and 2 kids), own pool, car included, welcome pack etc.
Can't remember how much but within your budget.

We were going to give the far east a break next summer and go to Greece.Priced it up and it's cheaper to go to Thailand, so we are of there again.
Price it up(or a similar destination),you may get a pleasant surprise.

This. Shop around on owners direct and you can easily do it for about three grand.

Certainly worth booking things separately, ie Ryan air type flights and book accommodation though somewhere like, homelidays, ownersdirect or similar, much cheaper.

I can recommend JamesVillas, there are some good deals available if you are not too fussy about destination. Certainly less than £8k!

Sounds a lot but then I tentatively had a look for two weeks in the sun for June time as it's our last chance to go during term time as our eldest will be starting school in September. For a nice resort on a Greek island, lots of pools and stuff for the kids, and all-inclusive as I want it to be minimum hassle, was looking at £4k for that.

Understand why we had two weeks in the caravan every year when we were kids smile

Try owners direct f1519 deal with an owner directly, and cut out the middle men, flights with BA will be ok, if booking during their sales which are now on or through someone like Norwegian air. A colleague used them to fly to Miami I think in August for £495/head, unbelievable.

The only way to do it cheaper is to take them out of school or give two up for adoption.
