Hello all, my Chimaera is the later one with the split grill. Am in the process of getting a personalised registration transferred onto the car and I have always favoured the 3D carbon plates that Demon Plates do.

The trouble is that these plates do not take kindly to screw holes and I'm worried that sticking them on is a bad idea unless I move the location of the plate:

When doing a little search earlier I found a link to some strong looking tape on Amazon but I'm looking for opinions/experiences before I take the plunge and order a set of these plates.

Thanks in advance

Mount the plate a little lower and stick it top and bottom bridging the bottom aperture? That's how mine's done and it's been secure enough

Have used industrial velcro (30mm width) on numberplates for years with no problem, but you need a decent surface area. If fixing to the narrow bar try double sided 3M acrylic VHB (very high bond) tape. Its used by most automotive manufacturers for attaching trim etc to painted surfaces instead of screws/ clips.

But beware - once its on you'll have a tough time getting it off again!

Last lot I got was from RS Components. Its not cheap but you won't need much....

That is definitely a consideration. Do you have a photo you wouldn't mind sharing or PMing me?

TheYellowPeril,If your not convinced by the sticking method.Try taking your plate off and cut it down on all sides by about 2cm ,fix it back on using countersunk screws so they are flush with the plate and then stick your new plate to that . 1/ you get a solid backing plate which you know is secure . 2/ you don't see any fixings .smile

I mounted my front plate in the same manner Pupp suggested. I bought the number plate tape from Halfords. No issues toured 1000 miles round France. It did come off when some one pulled across a junction of a duel carriageway in front of chim with no way to stop in time. Mind you the bonnet also pinged off at the same time. Just waiting for her to come back from central TVR after repairs and more.

My plate is double sided taped on and if you buy decent tape it won't come loose. Indeed it was still attached to the front end of my car that wasn't still attached to the car after my accident.

Pic in my profile of the plate in position.

Velcroed on with two small plastic blocks bonded to the back of the plate to stop it tipping at speed.

Survived high speeds and easy to remove if necessary.
