When typing into the Message window on PH I frequently hear a ping and I am unable to type until I click on the page again. This occurs in Firefox, Chrome and Maxthon.

It doesn't always happen, and the frequency of being kicked off varies. But irritating doesn't really cover it.

I've noted that at the foot of the browser window there is often, if not always, the url ping.chartbeat.net [plus gibberish). When that appears I know I am going to experience problems.

Their website assures me that their data collection cannot cause problems. I believe this without any doubt whatsoever and assume that it is just a coincidence.

However, just on the offchance, how can I stop ping pinging me?

A quick Google of that site suggests you're not the only one having problems.

Perhaps this thread would be better in Website feedback, as this is a site issue, rather than a user issue.

Over the past 18 months or so, PH has been ruined by these various tracking sites etc.

Hi Derek, what are you using to post (device and browser) and what ISP are you on?

Reason I ask is that it makes better stats for us to target ads at you wink... ummm, I mean that it is useful to know if this is an issue effecting specific browsers or connections as not something we can replicate in the office or at home.

The problem only occurs on my desktop, running Win7. I use Maxton on my Win 8.1 laptop without problem.

I use BT Internet.

The browser was Maxton, all up to date. I've now changed to chrome in the main (Maxton at the moment) and the problem does not occur. However, I preferred Maxton.

I did some experimenting. The problem comes only after Maxton has been 'live' for about 90 mins. It does not have to be active in that if I leave the computer for a couple of hours and then return, if I start typing then the problem often starts. Restarting the computer puts everything back to the start but that's not always convenient. Closing Maxton and then reopening doesn't seem to solve it.

Apologies for the late reply.
