Can't see this taking three child seats across the back. I'm out!

How is it dated, apart from using the "old" ICE system? To me it looks cleaner and like a nicer place to spend time than a lot of new cars. - Some of the competition are going through a period of fussy, messy interiors.

Or more accurately, not ideal for the cillit bang brigade who think that if you can't see dirt then it isn't there. wink

Its like the new XE, seems cheap in pics but whilst sat in it, it has a bit of understated quality to it if that makes sense. It doesn't wrap round you like a X3 etc but Its a nice place to sit and has all the squidgy bits in places you would expect.

I have to say, after trying just about every 4x4 and Estate out there over the last couple of months it actually came down to a Disco Sport or X3 (which was the biggest surprise).

I loved the Evoque to drive but find it too blingy in design for me, and really enjoyed the Freelander but couldn't buy a discontinued model, so decided to wait and see the Disco Sport.

However, after reading a few tests which are saying the X3 is still better and feels far plusher interior wise, I have decided to go with an X3 for now and see what the new engine brings in the Disco Sport next year.

I really like it, think it will sell very well too.

I wonder why they made the third row standard?
I'd rather it was an option and the car cheaper.

It looks like a good "general purpose" family car / light duty 4x4, exactly as designed. I'm interested to see the full-fat Disco 5 though and hoping the design lends itself to more vigorous off-road use without leaving smashed bumpers and trim in it's wake.

Only standard in the UK.

Strange decision imho, I would rather it be £1500 cheaper and loose the 2 rear seats.

It seems odd to me that they launch with the old engine so everyone says "wait for the new engine in 6 months". I wonder how much better the new engine will be? LR could do with getting on terms with BMW in the engine department, but that's not easy.

Need to be on par at least with Volvo not BMW.

They are, but it takes time to ramp up enough production of a new engine in a new facility quick enough to meet demands of both the DS and Jag XE

The first cars are all 5+2, when the 2WD cheaper models arrive etc. you will be able to spec without the 3rd row.

Name the few cars that can, plus I dont think any can do that on the third row.

If your buying an SUV it might as well have seven seats. Makes it a no-brainer really.

And honestly I quite like that interior, dated or not it looks simple and, most importantly, clean - a characteristic a lot of german car's interiors are lacking nowadays...

Whilst the interior is not as plush as the Evoque it was never meant to be. It is a faithful evolution of the LR FL2 IMHO , sort of semi rugged but has quality too, the one I sat in was actually quite nice in an unfussy way. And certainly well put together.
However I quite like the more wrap around of the Evoque style than the slab fronted DS.

LR are going very 'blobby' with their styling, I hope this is not a portent of a 'japanese' style Defender replacement. This looks even more like a school run car, though the 117mph is a bit redundant.

What is the maximum speed allowed with studded tyre?

And it looks cheap in real life too, unfortunately.

Not really bad, by any means, but certainly in the context of the serious price hike over the Freelander.

One can easily see that the architecture under the dash is identical to the Freelander, with just a couple of superficial attempts to make it more premium. I think they failed.

Pity, I was really looking forward to it...

Guess that the risk of giving this the styling queues of the Range Rover Sport and FF is that there is an expectation of a more premium interior than the Freelander range was ever about?

yes

The interior is okay for the place the car occupies in the range. But it doesn't match the exterior promise at all. Really silly mistake, because Audi sell a lot of cars by the look and feel of their interiors. A lot of people will still buy a Q3/Q5 because of this I think.
