Stig at Race of Champions: Time For Tea?

Well done DC and all that, now watch this for a Scandinavian flick

A shorter clip than usual for our afternoon video break. It would have been nice to feature the official Race of Champions highlights, what with David Coulthard winning and all, but it's rather contrived and doesn't feature enough race footage really.

So instead we have Stig Blomqvist's run out at Bushy Park in Barbados in his most famous steed, the Audi quattro. In all honesty it looks a rather stubborn rally car on warm tarmac, rather unwilling to turn in and then ploughing through the bend. Right up until Stig decides to back the Audi in in most spectacular fashion...

And throughout there's that fabulous five-cylinder noise. Blomqvist versus Coulthard for 2015? In Barbados? It would be rude not to visit.

Watch the video here.

That thing looks aalmost undriveable on grippy, dry tarmac

I reckon most of the drivers at ROC would have put that straight into the wall

Looked like a similar driving experience to the stadium trucks lol , I wonder if Roman grosjean could touch the sky with the audi front wheel Like he did with the stadium trucks hehe

Even today that car looks ruddy quick, especially driven as mentioned above by a pensioner...

Bloody OAP's. Need to get them off the roads....... and onto the tracks.

The car itself... hmm, looks quite sloppy, and I bet some suspension tuning wouldnt go astray.

Why modern rallying leaves me cold answered right there. To much suspension travel, too little grip, too much understeer.....

.....600bhp and that noise.

Group B, glad I was able to be there when it first arrived right through to when it ended. Don't car how much quicker modern rally cars might be, Group B was better by a country mile biggrin

And that, Ladies & Gentleman is the one and only Stig. An utter legend, who lets his driving do the talking. These legends never lose it.

I do find it funny that his son Tom drives under the GB flag.....

Was watching the ROC last night and couldn't believe what Romain Grosjean was doing in the trucks - fantastic smile

Would love to go and watch this if it ever comes back to the UK.

Can't find it anywhere on Youtube, but when the BBC used to cover the British Rallycross GP at Brands every Dec, Stig competed in the 1984 (IIRC) event in his own rallycross spec lwb Quattro, and he had an in car camera, and his relaxed, effortless driving style, manhandling that beast around Brands was a lesson in driving style to me, some 30 odd years ago.

there is a fantastic lady driver of quattro, she is french and named Michelle Mouton, she drove for the factory, competed at top level and enjoyed factory boost levels in her car.

she was and is very special, skilled and fearless, very nice looking too.

This one credited as the lady who put it it's roof in the video?.

Michelle Mouton (ROC Organizer) crashed an Audi Quattro S1 during the Nation Cup Special Event at Dusseldorf Stadium, Germany. biggrin

Have to say though one of my best memories of Rallying was standing in Dalby listening to both Mikkola and Mouton approaching in those first Quattro's, a hairs on the back of your neck moment....

Or the year after seeing them carving through the traffic on the M6 trying to stay on time in a road section. One of them went right up the embankment to go through a gap under a Bridge when all three lanes and the hardshoulder were blocked. Not sure that would go down well these days.
