V8 Supercar races are rarely exciting, though, are they?

I've seen more RACING in the average BTCC round than in a season of Aussie V8s.

That's what you are on about...........................

Yep the little man is right, I purchased a new Gen-F VXR8 about 7 months ago (my fourth VXR8), used it for about a thousand miles and then sent it up to Walkinshaw Performance at Chipping Norton for the boys to wave the magic wand and OMG what a piece of kit. They said over the phone when they called me to say it was ready "think your are going to like it"............... Like it was an understatement as with 761.9bhp you can only imagine what it's like till you sit in the pilots seat.

All I can say is "totally amazing performance" out of this very sensibly priced, big five seat saloon car which stands out from the crowd without a shadow of a doubt.

Best car I have ever owned, next step is new heads, Hahaa, as they tell me 850bhp is available. wink
sounds like an utter beast! any idea on 0-60 and top end speed?

On the standard gearbox and diff, with enough power, these cars are geared for well over 200. My rough calculations the other night on the mway put 6000rpm in the 210mph bracket. Stock 60 time is claimed to be 4.2s so with a nice warm sticky track should be comfortably sub 4.

Would love to see one of these at Thunder Road to see what it is actually capable of smile

Probably about 185mph. To get to 200mph in the mile in one of these you need about 800 - 900HP and correct gearing. 0-60 mph is probably 4 secs in the dry but it will be traction-limited like all of its kind. At this power level & weight, you don't really get going until over 100mph but it will accelerate from 100mph to 150mph like a hot hatch gets from 60mph to 100mph, lots of fun to watch them disappear in your mirror but bad for your license! ...in the wet you can get 120mph wheelspin which is extremely unfunny! smile

Lived in Aus over 30 years, and had one of these once.

Once.

Never again.

Quality levels shocking. Best thing you can do with these is drive them to the nearest pier, and stick it in gear. Have to echo previous commentary; this is not much more than a tyre destroying barge, whose handling is on a par with the average wet rag.

If someone gave me one for free, I'd do my best to push it on to my worst enemy, at the lowest possible price. Hell, I'd even pay them to take it.

Big bills coming, and in this country, fuel bills will be crippling whilst just warming it up on the drive.

Feel free to come over to Reading to see how much of a step change the gen-f is. Far superior to my BMW in every respect.

So I'm guessing you're a Ford lover??

Honestly, the HSV marque has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years in terms of build quality, handling and interior trim.

The handling of the MRC suspension setup is pretty bloody good too, almost as good as my 5 series of a few years back. But when you compare the cost of the HSV to a similarly spec'd BMW you just can't argue what a bargain the HSV is!

I think all the Walkie modded cars are limited to 155mph on our roads? So unless you can get in to the ECM and take off the limiter (removing the warranty with it) that's it.

This mod is relatively cheap though, wonder if the automatic box is strong enough for it?

And what sort of handling would that have? A pickup truck with little weight over the rear axle and all that torque?

Is that an optical illusion or are the rear wheels (black) about 3 inches smaller in diameter than the front (red)?
.......Seems like a cheap easy way to lower the gearing for crowd pleasing burnouts to me.

This power in a touring body "wagon" would be the dogs danglies for me. Shame the home grown car market just doesn't want Aussies finest anymore (or are being told we can no longer have it!).
