Chaps, recently bought a 335 coupe ('07) and the dash keeps lighting up telling me that an exterior light needs replacing yet when I go outside to check the car all lights are working. Is this just a pre-emptive warning to tell me that the angel eyes are on their way out or something?

I used to have this occasionally on my E92 M3 and the bulbs were always fine but I just disconnected the plug on which bulb/cluster it said had failed and reconnected it again and it never came on again after that so that might be worth a try.

So you've had someone sit in the car and put on brakes, into reverse and indicators etc while you went around and checked them all?

Or you just checked the ones you could see yourself?

No need to get someone to sit in the car while you do that, position the car right and you can do it yourself

Using the BC stalk get to the fault, then hold down the BC button to display the code. Look it up here and even if that bulb appears fine, change it.

Mine had a warning for months which irritate me until I discovered this, changed the bulb and has been fine since.

There are two brake light bulbs per side so it's not apparent one of the, needs replacing when doing a visual inspection. There is actually a technical bulletin covering this

Thanks chaps, I'll have to have a closer look at this and inspect the lights further.

Had exactly this last week. Mrs insistent the brake light was working fine, but actually only one of the offside bulbs was working.

Yes had the same problem with a backlight a while back, lights all worked fine however every so often I got the bulb failing message on my screen.
Think it has something to do with the bulbs connection getting corroded, changed offending bulb and all was fine.

I think I read somewhere the 'boot' lights also light up under emergency braking(?). Would never know how you would test these other than swapping with a good bulb to see if the failed bulb 'moves'.

From what I saw with mine recently, most of the bulbs are 21w.

I had to replace a boot light a year or two back, cost something like £160 for the unit as they're LEDs and designed to last the car's lifetime...

The car is going in tomorrow to have a rear fog light replaced (also in the boot cluster? - presumably on the other side) this time it's being replaced under warranty.
