New to R/C need a bit of guidance

Just purchased a S/H Hobby models RC crane.
Everything works
Both tracks forward/reverse
Jib up/down
Grab up down
The only downside is that the body does not turn on the chassis ( i was advised about this)
anticlockwise it is dead
Clockwise a motor runs but nothing moves

Question, what is the best method of finding out the cause esp for the dead anti clockwise action
clockwise appears to be mechanical
I dont think my grandson (who is diggers,cranes,JCB, tractor mad) will worry too much about it ....but his father, thats a ifferent story

Well, sounds like a gearbox problem - depending how the model is, either a motor with a transfer gearbox on it, or a servo (same thing, but all in one). Chances are dodgy/stripped gear somewhere that runs one way and locks up the other.
