Aye, pretty much. Drop the oil first if you're doing it on ramps, propshaft out of the way, hold the flange with a length of bar and two bolts and whip the nut off. Pry the seal out, tap the new one in square, reassemble in reverse order biggrin

It's possible your oil may not be coming from the G/B rear seal, but higher up from the notoriously poor 'remote shaft' seal, it's just a small 'o' ring inside the rear housing.

Clean everything thereabouts at the rear, go for an enthusiastic drive to get the oil splish/sploshing, innardly, and inspect the rear cover for point of egress.

If it is the upper 'remote' seal, very easily dealt with, fold and drape a length (say 4" X 18") of terry towelling over the shaft and tuck the hanging loose ends into the rear cross-member.

The resulting 'nappy' will not catch on anything nearby.

The amount of oil lost is minimal and gets less as the oil level drops.

Indeed, over-filling is the main reason for much splashing of oil inside.

Three benefits:-

. nil oil drips on parking space
. very easy to do
. inspect and change the 'nappy' annually when you check the oil level

Oh yes, don't over fill.
