Looking exceptionally hard for offence I suspect.
Agreed even with the historical origins of the word, I am unsure why it would be inappropriate to use it.

As for Sony and this hack, it would not suprise me to find Sony were behind it themselves. Any publicity is good for business in the entertainment industry.
Glad I'm not the only one thinking the same on both points made here.
given your depth of knowledge on kowtowing and korea?
Nope, you've got us, you'll have to spell out how you managed to find it offensive or somehow un-PC.

I've got to admit, you're better at this than the Times crossword.

I know it goes against every instinct you have, but given that nobody else seems to know what you're on about, could you, for once, actually explain what you mean rather than just making sniping comments. Ta.

It would be more helpful if you stated what you think the issue is, rather than making critic comments about other people's knowledge.

really?

...and in particular with reference to Korea?
As my understanding of the word before this thread. I took it to be a UK derived thing but google says it is a throw back to China and a particular meaning.

So my understanding of its etymology is revised but I think, on reflection, it still fits?
yes it really sounds like olde english doesn't it?

and the your revised understanding of its etymology doesn't include the history of the act in relation to Korea
What is the issue then, my irony meter is bust.

I expect what pork911 is alluding to is the ritual humiliation of Injo, the 16th King of the Josean empire at Samjeondo by Hong Taiji, Second Emperor of the Qing Dynasty following the Second Manchu invasion of Korea in 1636.

Good god. How did we ever let that slip from our memories? I think the MODs should change the title immediately lest the descendents of Injo take understandable offence.

Or, maybe, here's a thought, you could just tell us all why it's so bad?

If my comments are in ignorance, then enlighten me. I genuinely do not know what you are on about. My understanding of the term is as I have said.

On the CSFP scale, where is this?

What, and lose that (perceived) glow of smug self-satisfaction?

It is hardly the first time. More fool the rest of us for rising to it.

Incidentally a friend has a South Korean wife and she doesn't find the word Kowtow offensive confused

Oh, I didn't even realise he was being serious? I thought it was tongue in cheek! If that's an attempt at trolling, he really needs to up his game.

TBF, when your trolling is prolific, quality control can be a challenge.
