Hello PH sleuths,

My old man caught a very strange incident on his cctv. Someone drove past his car, stopped and then slammed it in reverse hitting his car pretty hard.

He's now an excess down and a claim added to his insurance. Witnesses outside got most of the plate, but they either got it slightly wrong or the car has a dodgy plate.

Have a look at the video here:

http://youtu.be/8OgL3RWgYUc

The plate the neighbours got was N?59 NGY. They were certain about the last part (confirmed by 3+ people) but a quick trawl of ask MID shows it must be a different beginning.

The car looks like a Volvo convertible, or maybe a Megane?

The closest I've got as a plate on ask MID is "Mercedes 220 Avantgarde 170 CDI" and "Volvo C30 SE R-Design D"

Any ideas?

How strange!
Definitely a Megane though. Best of luck getting it all sorted out

That's a Megane Convertible.

Now you need to try different combinations of the beginning until you get the right result. We can all help with that biggrin

I would say that that is a Megane convertible.

Definately a Megane as others have said.

Older model so N(no.)59 NGY. Only 9 variants, guess you have tried them all ?

That is bizarre. Is it possible they were trying to reverse park behind and completely misjudged?

Hello,

Might be irrelevant but You say he drove passed, but actually he hit it on the way passed the first time and then reversed into it.

It almost looked like he was trying to tuck it back into the curb to be less obvious.

Not sure if that makes any difference to anything.

Interesting. I thought Megane too, but a mechanic friend was convinced it was a volvo. Also I've been searching new style plates (so Letter, Letter, 59) Hadn't thought of trying old style...

If it really happened a couple of months ago, might be a bit late to start looking now.

I reckon they were planning to reverse park and cocked up.

Watch the time stamp and the oncoming Corsa. The Camera does some funkiness.

They only made that shape megane from 1999-2003 so it won't be on an N plate.

Must be a personalised plate?

Its definately a Megane smile

That model ran from 96 to 2003, not sure when the cabriolet was introduced.

ETA; Butter Face has the years for that shape, so you can narrow down what plates it could be (as long as it didn't have a personal plate put on at some point).

Are you sure it was 59 plate as the format doesnt look right for such an old car.

Must be dropped frames. I've watched it over and over. The blue car drives past, so does the silver car (without hitting parked car), stops and then reverses into parked car. It does look like a bizarre and terrible parking attempt gone wrong.

Either the reg is wrong or it's on dodgy plates as none of them 1-9 come up here: https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

As others have said, definitely a Mégane. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=megane+convertib...

1996, N reg is plausible on that basis.
