RE: Subaru WRX STI: PH Fleet

Run a real fuel test - brim to brim and compare that against mileage/litres. Always found the trip comps to over-read. Still, I have an 02 WRX PPP and that regularly returns 28+mpg with mixed driving (on an 120k+ engine), so a new engine, modern ignition system, map plus better aeros... can't see why 32mpg isn't achievable.
On the to-do list. And we'll be sure to do the same with the Golf when it arrives too.Cheers,

52 and it does not bother me at all!!
I'm 66, current owner of an Impreza WRX 2.5 PPP and four others previously owned since 1997. I love the the rear wing on the new WRX STi and personally don't see the problem with the EJ25 - don't hit the rev limiter, give it the best oils and it will last for years (from personal experience of the 2.5 since 2006)!Dan Trent said:

TBH although real-world mpg is important, the for company drivers it's the BIK that matters more, and based on the emission/consumption the subaru gets hit for 37% BIK, where a golf R is 24% (dsg) and something like a vRS is only 21%.Cheers,

Its a real shame as i really want this car to succeed - just think it hasn't really evolved like the competition. A few years back people would have laughed if you said you were comparing an Impreza STI with a golf.
Looks good in white though
I went to see a grey one "in the flesh" last week and I think it looks seriously good - much better than pictures suggest. Going to test drive soon and will probably get one if it is as I am hoping (proper car not computer game).
Not being a Golf or 1 Series is a major plus in my book.

Brilliant value for money....... or you could save 4 grand and buy the skoda Octavia lol I left a comment on the skoda thread and got slagged off how cheap does this 4 wheel drive performance car look compared to some off the naff hot hatches, and this will put the power down in all weathers.

Well spotted Had a close look at a Notanimpreza recently and it certainly appeared quite beefy and more grown up than the Impreza WRX STi of yesteryear. So with the previous generations of Imprezas performance vs similarly priced vehicles of the same period in mind I assumed these new ones must be small rocket ships (especially considering they've dropped the Impreza name and focused on the WRX STI branding like Nissan did with the GTR formerly known as a Skyline)... but they aren't really by modern standards. They are far more Impreza than STI in comparison with previous generations.

Must be me, I don't think it looks 'that' bad outside, but inside its looks like its 15 years old.............
Nobody ever bought a Subaru for the "inside" I like it - delete the wing, let depreciation do its thing and wind the power towards the back wheels (Golf R's can't perform that trick manually ) and you've got a nice, mechanical feeling B road weapon.
Just wish they were a bit cheaper brand new.
Not crazy about the looks of this latest sti. That said I've always thought that the evo x looks slightly ill proportioned too compared to previous versions. Used to love these but maybe I've grown up a bit. The golf R seems more of a complete package. Will be interesting to see a comparison. Personally I'd prefer to spend that sort of money on a tidy 996 C4S or turbo. Still, fair play to Subaru for bringing it here.
Owned 4 imprezas, last being a 22B. I was a huge fan of the classics, but hated the new age.
Happy to give one of these a go, but just a few questions in case anyone can give me a heads up.
Whats the mileage like on a long motorway trip?
Has anyone remapped one with, say, just an turbo back exhaust and better intake? If so, what kind of difference did it make to power and economy?
Thx,
R
