British success story.....must unconditionally worship....absolutely everything they do..

Seriously, the 'It's British so any criticism you have is invalid' argument is just ridiculous. Yes, they make truly excellent cars, but that in no way obligates anyone to like every single thing about the entire company.

I like Ferrari cars, but think the company acts like a dick. Why someone cannot feel the same about McLaren just because they're British is beyond me.

Back on topic....

I think this car is going to be mighty impressive.

12c was too conservative IMHO, 650S looks great and so does this.

It's got real presence and will be a surprise which is what they need.

It's not the same tub or engine block.

By the way, do you level the same accusation at the LaFerrari's engine?
After all, by the same logic it's the same F140 as the one in the FF and F12... what's the price difference there? £1.2 million?
I can only comment on what I have read and the 650 has the same block and tub as the p1 and yes there is a massive price difference between these models,i think the Ferrari looks totally different to the other cars in its stable and it does not share its carbon tub with those models, unlike the mcclaren which does.
What you've read is wrong.

If you took the M838T from a 12C or 650S and attempted to fit it to a P1, you'd find that it would not fit. If you attempted to force it to fit, it'd stick out the top of the P1's bodywork.
In terms of the "block being the same" - the P1 (M838TQ) block is also the housing for the e-Machine in the P1, and is in addition to this considerably stronger than that fitted to the M838T.

The P1's monocage isn't the same as the 12C's monocell: the cage is structural. Have you actually looked at them?

If you are going to class things such as bore, stroke and cylinder pitch and being the same engine, then the E46 BMW M3 and McLaren F1 have the same engine, the McLaren's V12 being based on the dimensions of the E46's straight six, but doubled up.

It's actually closer to being two S50 motors paired up (E36 M3) albeit with double vanos.
Bmw actually incorporated many of the F1 motor's advances into the S50B32 (M3 Evo) unit.

The E46 M3 S54 motor came much later.

Speaking of engines, the F40 inherited it's motor from the 288.

Didn't do that much harm !
You are correct. My BMW model numbering is not great, and the E46 wasn't around the ...

it is fortuante that the engineering department doesn't have the same level of talent as their marketing dept.

It has the same tub and engine, slightly detuned. There will be a soft and hard top. It looks pretty similar but will be cheaper. There really is not need for a teaser campaign.

That said I hope it gives the other cars in its class a good spanking which there is a good chance it will.

Two big issues with all this Black Swan rhubarb:-

1. The Marketing department really are dreadful
2 It looks too much like the 650 and P1. Which is… well, dreadful.

I suspect it'll be an awesome car and I, personally, will be looking in interest as a potential customer
However, that whole 'black swan' marketing mystique BS is a little cringe worthy, certainly

Dealers are being rather tight lipped about it too

Is there an ounce of humility and fun within a country mile of McLaren?

They are so pleased with themselves.

Who has even heard of the M6GT? A Black Swan moment? Give over.
British success story.....must destroy....tear down..

Who's heard of an M6GT, most real petrol-heads I would have thought.
I just googled the M6GT, as i had heard of it vaguely, but what a fantastic looking car. Some real wacky racer/speed racer look about it. Presumably from the 70's, got to love it!

McLaren M6 GT 5800cc
Shelsley Walsh.
Martin Bolesover
Text from elsewhere :-
"Martin was extremely quick to point out that his car is not original. It had been raced very successfully in historic events around Europe as an M6 Can-Am car. “When I was finished racing it as a Can-Am car I wanted to keep it, so I converted it into an M6GT,” he explained. “I got a lot of help from Peter Agg, who was the chap in charge of Trojan at the time they were building the customer cars [for Mclaren].”
In Bolsover’s own words, the M6GT is a ‘hairy monster with 650 bhp, no electronics and heavy handling.”
