OK fair enough, I'd assumed from those shows on TV that idiots trying to get a rise were quite common. And I assumed that as it seems to be at some kind of public event that they've just spread the police out a bit rather then having them bunched together.

Edit - on second watch not sure why I thought it was at an event - just the way the officer was standing in the doorway but on second look it appears to be drizzling.
You are correct. It was at a public event, the Nottinghill Carnival. Heres another video of the same guys pranking the police at the same event http://youtu.be/YBcRHtR1cB8 . Quite a few of the coppers got a good laugh out of it.

I find some of the pranks hillarious.

Not really. Being shot isn't a suitable punishment for being a complete twunt, at least not in a civillised country.

It's a very stupid thing to do though.[/quote

Some pillock confronts copper in America, a supposed civillised country renowned for it's gun use. Said pillock asks the copper if he wants to die, the copper is cornered with nowhere to go. Next off a second pillock reaches into his jacket as if to pull out a gun. Copper shoots said pillock / pillocks before they get the chance to shoot him.

In this country probably not, but then again that's not what JMGS4 said though wink

IMHO considering the climate at the moment, that officer handled the situation in a very constrained manner. Not sure I would have reacted in that way, which is probably why I'm not a copper.

Had that been an armed officer, he would have probably been within his rights to pull his firearm if he felt that constituted a threat... 'Do you want to die?' 'Are you threatening me?' Dude pulls something from jacket.

In the US he'd have been shot.

Idiot's the pair of them, some serious restraint shown by the officer involved.

Full lenght video of the prank. No one was arrested, some had a good laugh, Good and sensible policing wins.

Thank God those that would have arrested or executed these chaps are either PH police or cops in la la land.

Yeah. The Police Officer looks like he thought it was a barrel of laughs.

I'm convinced you're Sec136man under a different log in name. (There can't possible be two of you)

..... says the man who soils himself when someone knocks on his car window.

It's a stupid thing to do. Some cops humoured these clowns, some clearly felt genuinely threatened (as did some members of the public).

If that's your idea of someone having a laugh I'd suggest you need to grow up.

I think it's bang out of order personally and shows a worrying lack of respect for the people that risk their lives to protect us.

I worry that the copper didn't react with force more because he was scared to do so for fear of the backlash it could cause.

I would like to think to think that our Police do not operate under such fear and that when threatened will feel able to adequately protect themselves, but it's not always the case is it?

Remember - the Police wouldnt have had the video weve seen. Had he punched the the bloke - hed have been in trouble for over-reacting. They would have both said it was just a joke - not sure what complaints would have made of it. He was damned whatever he did

No, we don't have to deal with cretinous behaviour like that 'all the time'. That was plain threatening and to say it was bad taste would be an understatement. He should have been arrested under the Public Order act 'harassment, alarm or distress'. I'd say it's well covered.

If you think he wouldn't be on his own, think again. It's policy now to single crew. It makes the public think there are more Officers available. Being miles from backup is the norm now. I can't express my contempt enough for that imbecile.
depressing and disgraceful all at the same time.

the st we waste money on in this country and we put people in harms way without backup, just unbelievable

Perhaps this story demonstrates why it wasn't funny. A police officer possibly killed because of nothing more than the job they did.

That is one hell of a leap, I will hazard a guess that many people will be assaulted tonight due to dheads consuming too much alcohol and acting the big man.

Lets pick the video of black guys pulling a not so funny prank, instead of picking the hundreds where the white guy is pulling the prank which have millions of view as opposed to this one....
Trying to make yourself look good? Do you think you've managed it? Why do people like you express a wish for society to be colour-blind, but then bring race into pretty much everything?

Do you care so deeply about the millions of black people enslaved in Muslim countries? Or are you just anti-white?

There is a valued poster on this forum (and at least one other site) who I happen to know is black. I can be reasonably sure that the "boy" concerned would have no truck with your self-promoting faux-offended political correctness.

I dont think in this case. An armed policeman would have been justified in using lethal force and an unarmed officer would have been justified in using whatever force necessary to subdue the guy who put his hands in his jacket.

It was a terrible/not funny prank but is it one worth arresting/prosecuting for... I do not think so.

Would you arrest and prosecute someone for pointing a water pistol at a MOP or police officer?

Plenty of Police officers have been murdered as a result of nothing more than the job they do, Fiona Bone, Nicola Hughes, Ian Dibell etc. Plenty more have been assaulted and injured including when off duty.

You've changed your tune as you wanted a 'lunatic' locking up for tapping your car window and you were spouting on about how he should have been hung for it.

The real world consequences of pointing a pistol at a MOP or police officer could be a bit more severe than being arrested & prosecuted.rolleyes
