Which trigger wheel do I need for MS. I have been looking at www.triggerwheels.com. Is it as 6 bolt 36-1?

They offer two, one of which is adjustable. There is a good price difference between them though. Do I need the adjustable one? I need to get it fitted and and then my crank pulley rebalanced, so wont be able to adjust it afterwards myself anyway? Experience here welcome.

On a slightly different note, after a colleague fitted a Megajolt, make sure the hall sensor bracket is really good quality- he had loads of issues with a poor quality bracket allowing the sensor to vibrate so the timing was scattered / intermittent.

Thanks Simon.

Its the same as Trigger-Wheels isn't it? Both companies are official MS dealers. I intend to get my MS from ExtraEFI, but I am trying to do a few bits whilst I sort out the rest of the funding for the main ECU and loom. The individual parts are cheaper from Trigger Wheels. I've got my my wideband lambda, lambda boss welded, coils and coil mounting bracket. Crank pulley is another job I like to get done now. A work in progress...

Also, do I need a spacer?

If your exhaust is getting hot enough to affect the VR sensor, you've got some serious air leak or timing problem going on

I wrapped the cable to the sensor in heat reflecting tape.

I can't afford the JE. That would be getting on to the cost of a full engine balance and I don't fancy lifting the engine, removing the heads etc and then shipping the block to John. I don't doubt the quality of his work though.

Who has fitted one of these, which one and did you use a spacer?

I'd go for whichever is the smaller dia providing it looks sufficiently stiff - There's no spacer on my JE one but I imagine the need for one could depend on the pulley set up and alignment of the sensor/bracket. Avoid if at all possible I'd say

Can't find the guy who I bought my trigger wheel and bits from but the 4.6 kit looked like the "Trigger Wheels" gear.

I have the JE kit on the 5.5 and very solid it is too.

Think you will find that Phil Ringwoods TW's are from trigger-wheels.com but because he owns a serp he knows what you will need inc spacers etc and the CS brkt and he is not expensive wink the other option you have is to use the www.lloydspecialistdevelopments.co.uk this one is thinner but you wont get pulley offset which you may get with the thicker one ( offsets best avoided with a serp belt) unless you did what I did and lose the mud/dirt plate off the back of the HB pulley a left over from the off road days from the donor vehicle methinks scratchchin they are all slotted avoid the one with just holes IMO in you pic shots Chuffy wink I prefer to set the wheel in the right place rather than using the software to offset the TW placement error nerd

Hi,

The top one in your picture is perfectly adequate for your needs, they are 5mm thick and laser cut, any adjustment wil be taken up when you adjust the sensor.

This is getting over complicated NOW IMO confused you cant adjust the sensor round the trigger-wheel only via the software offset tool rolleyes this TW is generally used by the MS fraternity using the RV8 wink its a known quantity and easier to phase/degree the CS and missing tooth on the TW however I do like the JE solution its more compact but more expensive and does the same job

Thanks Simon. I've ordered the ultra-slim TW from Lloyd SD today. They said that they have used it on plenty of of 500's without affecting the offset or with any adverse effects. However, as pointed out by Shaun at MS2, you need to remove the weight at the back of the pulley to fit the trigger wheel, so I'm not sure how Lloyd's have managed it. I've mailed them to ask and if they have a photo of one fitted, but didn't get a response. Perhaps to late in the day to respond.

Meanwhile, any thoughts on fitting and balancing?

I will dig out a pic of mine I kept the counter balance weight inc the bent bit of studding used to fine tune the assy all as per factory, the only think that made mine non stock was the missing tooth balance wise.
