Their stock clearance deals look far more tempting than a few percent off a new car. This 64 plate Passat looks like a proper bargain...

I paid half that for a 1 year old - exact same spec too.http://www.lookers.co.uk/volkswagen/used-cars/hot-...

I notice they used the past tense indicating that they've paid for the cars. As that's not normal practice (dealer usually pay on registration) I'll bet this only applies to cars they've had in inventory for a long time, or bought as PAC cars.
I also think it's deceptive to pretend that cost price means much. Rebates / bonuses etc produce most of dealers profit - the upfront margin is close to irrelevant. On most cars it's all but given away anyway.
I would suggest it is just a figure of speech around 'invoiced', as 'will be invoiced' is a bit of a mouthful. They will be cars they have in stock, that they can deliver / register this month to hit their Q4 targets. I also think it's deceptive to pretend that cost price means much. Was ex rental, believe that Enterprise pay around 60% of list price for new mainstream cars.
Seen similar deals on Ford too.
Don't really give a toss about your rolling eyes BTW.

So, you didn't buy the same car as in the advert for half price then did you. You bought an old / obsolete model (3/4 years ago) ex rental from a car supermarket...
Has there been a facelift/new model since a 61 plate?I think not, therefore same model.
Yes ex rental and car supermarket, the bonnet looked like it had been cleaned with a brillo pad and it was a gutless bd which is why I only kept it 8 months or so.
Working from my, poor, memory I must have bought it late in 2012 possible early 2013 and traded it exactly a year ago
I'm beginning to think that you're jealous of me.

Most the under 1yr old Golfs with 6 to 10000m on the clock at VW dealers will be ex rental. Similar to the A3 my colleague picked up as a rental at Humberside airport that will find its way to an Audi dealer no doubt.
A fair number will be direct from Volkswagen, having been staff cars, press fleet etcTVR1 said:
Well, in a previous thread you started, you are suggesting you purchased a Special Mercedes at a huge discount and that you are the font of all knowledge in regards to discounts.-and gave this purchase as an example of your cunning and guile.
However, in your wisdom, you didn't spot that the car you purchased has neither the correct wheels nor badging. Furthermore, unfortunately that chassis number doesn't appear on the Merc records as an S70. mistakes do happen, of course so I wont say 100% that it's wrong.
On the balance of probabilities though, you've been mugged.
So perhaps best to not give wisdom or advice on topics you have no real world experience of.

Chassis number is wrong. You're posting pictures that you recieved from the seller. Post up when the car arrives and il'll eat my words. I however, have found a video of your car in Japan. It isnt an S70.
If you genuinely believe someone is being ripped off why not post this on his original thread in order to help another PHer out?And why the ott hostility?

Assume it's a shafted rental and you can't go wrong!

There is an employees and family scheme within the VW groups of companies, that allows the "lease" of a new car at seriously discounted rates. In many cases they have to be handed back around 6 months old (6k miles) to be sold as approved used cars.[BS ALERT!]

It would not surprise me if there are thousands of such cars out at the moment on such a scheme.
Perhaps the better advice than "assuming it's a shafted rental" is to explicitly ask the dealership if it was run by a hire company and ask them to put their answer in writing.

Which they are under no obligation to do. Such family schemes will typically be ran through a leasing company anyways so would show as one on the V5 as the previous owner, i.e Hertz, Enterprise etc etcGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
