Must have been handy having a piece of kit like that to work with,
much cleaner edges than my effort.smile

Yes it's handy but my box in the boot looks a lot bigger than yours

I've made it the full width of the shelf in the boot was thinking it would be easier to do the carpet,

Lol. Nice turn of phrase.

First attempt was just the same, then I cut it down at the back (40mm) as the height isn't needed there.

CD player?
I can't keep up with all this modern technology smile

The cut out is looking good though Barry. thumbup

Are you bringing that saw on the chippy run in Jan? Don't forget the extension lead as well.
I reckon you could do all the S's attending on the day in half an hour while we are enjoying our fish 'n' chips.yum
We could even offer you a few chips while you're working away. But don't get greasy fingerprints everywhere, there's a good chap. nono

Just need some more carpet for the sides of the box, still got to stick it back down properly.

Looks good Barry.

Has anyone thought about doing it the other way around so the panels load from the boot side?

Might be a while till I next see you Barry but a have a load of charcoal grey "exhibition carpet", very similar to the thin cheap stuff used in the S boot.

And anyone else that would like some........ collection only or next "meet" wink

Oooh Yes please Mike!

I shall definitely be following Alan & Barry's fine examples.

Are you going on the Top Gear TVR Chippy Run in Jan if the weather permits?

I was going to try and fit them from the boot and have the box behind the seats, but you would have to take out the spare tyre each time and a lot more work with carpets in the car

Mike. I would appreciate a piece of carpet as I plan to carry out this mod.

I am also thinking about buying this to cut the hole:

Would it be possible to make the boot box hinged so that the panels could be inserted from the boot or the cockpit? I am not sure if there would be any great advantage from the complication. I do not want to build a box behind the seats as it would give me problems matching the existing green carpet.

Hi Tony,

The saw looks perfect for the job but the price suggests it might not last.
Looked at putting a piano hinge on the horizontal upper edge of the box but the geometry would only allow it to open 45 degrees before it fouled the boot aperture, this would make loading the panels difficult unless they were loaded upside down.
I can't see a net gain unless the cabin side was altered to hide the panels.

That's the same sort of thing I used works well, I wouldn't bother with the boot option I tried it and you would have to take the spare wheel out each time

I've had one of those saws for a couple of years . Bought mine at Aldi in one of their centre aisle setions. Really useful. The saw vibrates but wont cut the skin, Originally developed for Pathology labs I think. Cutting tools are a bit cheap and require frequent replacement but the tool itself is excellent.
