I was just having a discussion with someone who seems to really like the new golf and says it looks nothing like the Fiat Stilo from the turn of the Millenium. Personally, I think the golf looks a bit bland, very similar to the Stilo and could very easily be a 12 year old design.

Anyway, over to you guys.

The Stilo is the better looking car.

They look similar in the sense that they are both cars.

But anyway, another Golf bashing thread? Change the record.

There are definitely echoes when you compare them side by side like that, but I think the proportions are different enough that they don't actually look alike (IYSWIM).

Yes the Golf is a bit bland in the grand scheme of car design but that's never seemed to harm its success.

Golf is meant to be bland. It's a VW. This is their whole "thing".

The 3 door Stilo with nice wheels (late Active Sport model) is still a nice looking motor indeed.

In any era, you're going to get cars looking fairly similar. It's how trends move with designs.

Must admit the resemblance was something which jumped out at me when I first saw a new Golf. Only the four door STILO though, the three door was quite distinctive.

Yes but not usually a major manufacturer copying a style from 12 years earlier smile

They do look awfully similar.

The Golf does look a bit sharper with 'modern' lower suspension and larger wheels with lower profile tyres.

The Stilo is a very nice looking car, saying that the Golf looks like it is NOT golf bashing in the slightest.

Stilo looks more like an early A3 to me.

car design in general has stalled, quite a few recent models could easily have been launched over 10 years ago - the new skoda models for a start
