I've just bought a new car which has a matching set of Accelera tyres on which are in reasonable condition. Having looked on some online retailers sites they are concerningly cheap (£55 for 245/40R18 size) so I presume they must be made of finest Chinesium. Has anyone else had any experience of these? The car is a 350hp V8 Audi A6 quattro so it's big, heavy and powerful. I've not had any issues with them so far but I haven't been pushing hard or driving in bad conditions yet.

Basically am I likely to fall off the road at the first sign of rain and is it worth throwing away a complete newish set of tyres to get some decent Goodyears or Michelins on there?

Had them on a Clio 182 and they really struggled. On what was supposed to be a great handling car it was unpredictable when driving quickly especially in the rain.

I'd get them changed if I were you, with twice the power they could struggle even more.

Depends on who you ask by the looks of it:

My car has some - I bought it in recent months and haven't rushed to change them since they look like they're nearly new.

HOWEVER, they are st. There's no two ways about it. hehe They're acceptable in the dry with 'regular driving' but appalling in the wet. I'll be changing them in the new year.

Budget tyres made in Indonesia not China.

A friend once had them on a clio sport.

He died 3 times in the first evening.

But seriously, tyres are like everything in life, buy cheap, get cheap.

We have them on the Laguna my other half drives, seem perfectly acceptable on that, but she isn't the type to go for a spirited drive in it.

I'd be getting rid personally.

Also, that link only shows 3 subjective reviews from any random Tom, Dick or Harry.

Had them on the front of my ST225 when I bought it, they didn't last long before I replaced them, not too bad in the dry, but really terrible in the wet, changed them to conti SC3's and the difference was very noticeable.

You may be right, but what does one do? It's Tom, Dick and Harry v Patrick. How did you get on with them and which ones did you have.

I don't have to have tried them myself to form a reasoned judgement.

If you're going to look at subjective reviews then you can do better than going off 3 alone as you linked. There's enough out there to suggest that Accelera are crap on the whole, even if reviews for that specific tyre are scarce. It might not be definitive but I'd put money on them being crap, especially on a powerful, heavy car.

Lots on PH say if you drive to the conditions you'll be fine, no matter how bad your tyres are.

Personally, I'd throw them away and get something decent.

There's certainly some serious experts on PH... they can tell whether a tyre is any good without even knowing what model it is. hehe

Too right. The quality of the nut holding the steering wheel will always have the final say .. wink

I have had newish Accelera on used cars bought in the past. Never heard of them before then. Not exceptional but, OK in all conditions except for poor quality nuts holding the steering wheel. Here I have in mind Ditchfinder ... drivers. Playing silly Bs or plain driving stupidly for conditions, I could find a ditch with the best tyres in the world on the car.

More seriously however, two years ago fitted Uniroyal Rainsport 2s to my 200 bhp FWD car. They are fine although a very few drivers do not agree. More recently within last month, fitted Rainsport 3s to the better half's MG ZS. Superb! Particularly considering the prices Rainsport 2s and 3s can be got for if you shop around. Good tyres and good value.

OP - it's possible to spin off into a fiery pit of doom even though you are driving on Pirelli Super 70000NCT. Equally it's possible to have a long and happy life even though you are driving on LongLing Nakacheepies. It simply depends on how close you drive to the limits of adhesion and how often

Have a go - dont drive like a muppet, see how you feel. It's not rocket surgery smile
