utterly shameful ,similar situation to senior hmrc employees moving to jobs with accountancy firms after working on deals that benefited their customers . unfortunately as these people have zero integrity they will not understand what they have done wrong.http://www.eureferendum.com/blogview.aspx?blogno=8...

it does highlight why we are still pushing ahead with wind power when the rest of europe has virtually washed it,s hands of it.

Beefalo and the effects on the Grand Canyon.
Probably a little overblown as a current story but give it a few more years ....
Now, what else are we thinking of "engineering"?
Did someone suggest "climate control"?
And the author of the article's name? Anne-Marie Bullock http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-3166...

Heads up.
BBC4 tomight @ 9pm. "Climate Change by Numbers"
'A debate surrounding climate change, as mathematicians and scientists discuss three key numbers to help clarify what is happening to Earth amid public confusion".
Followed by: "Storyville: 1.7 Billion Dollar Fraud". Which is about something completely different. (And cheaper).

Those paragons of forecasting veracity over at Mystic Met have modelled furiously and seen a heatwave ahead, with a scorchio BBQ Easter to look forward to. What could possibly go wrong?

good news for aston villa though. if they increase the wage bill immediately by around 1000% they still have time to win the premiership .this really is amateur hour and will be ripped to bits by people with half a clue what they are talking about, including specialists in the fields represented by the bbc "experts" .

What does excite me is that 'they' feel it necessary to try and pre-empt what the other half has started to learn.......if you follow my drift.

Problem is that this is aimed at people with no where near 'half a clue'!!

oh i know .if that is what the bbc thinks will pass as scientific proof they will be disappointed ,i would think it has actually reinforced the sceptic case . I was thinking it's been a while since Climate change got blamed for something...

£168 per MWh!!!
From the BBC website;"It wants £168 per MWh for electricity in Swansea, reducing to £90-£95 per MWh from a second, more efficient lagoon in Cardiff.
'Energy dance'
The £90 figure compares favourably with the £92.50 price for power from the planned Hinkley nuclear station, especially as the lagoon is designed to last 120 years - at a much lower risk than nuclear."
Wasn't Hinkley pitched at double the current price? Guess which way electricity bills are heading, folks...
When it comes to tidal, what (if any) are the lessons from the French scheme on the Rance Estuary?

Evidently Kalman Filtering is used to fudge the surface temp records (a.k.a homogenisation)
Good 'ol Arrhenius (yet again) determines the global surface temp change as being proportional to the log of the change in concentration of CO2. Apparently four degrees for each doubling of concentration!
And all that is required to deliver more accurate forecasts is greater spend on more powerful computers.
Oh - and during the second world war, sea temps were measured from intakes in the boiler room to avoid the need for going on deck to chuck a bucket over the side.
Simples!
Telly nearly achieved escape velocity - luckily its inertia was too great for the meager impulse the viewer at the time was able to generate - and why take it out on relatively sophisticated tech when there is so much dumb climate carp to suffer the wrath.

LED lights for all.
Why?
Gives the disturbines half a chance to be of some use some of the time and may just free up a little capacity for charging all the electric cars once in a while.
As for high long term generation prices ... so many reasons but I think they hope that people won't notice because they will have become used to the restricted consumption and so their bills will not alter much. They hope.
In theory the maths for LED lights seem OKish. Over the long term. Maybe.
But then it was the same for Halogen and CFL until the the life expectancy claims of the relatively expensive items were found wanting once mass manufacturing had taken off and prices were under pressure.
Still, less carbon consumption so all is well with the world ....
