I'm currently restoring a 1970 Fiat 500. I have a red, one piece carpet which I plan to use in the car. However, I've had a change of mind about the overall colour scheme of the car and now the red carpet will not match the rest of the interior.

Bespoke carpets for these classics only come in a limited range of colours. I wish to change the carpet's colour from red to Burgundy. Does anyone on here know of, or can provide a carpet dyeing service? I am based in London.

Thank you.

You can't dye a plastic or a syntheic polymer. The color of your carpet is introduced to the material in the manufacturing process. Organic polymers (wool silk) can be.
But. You can Paint polymers with Good results. If you Clean the carpet with some solvent before spraying. I use plastic-cleaner (pre-paint cleaner/anti silicone) You can use Paint thinner also but not. too much and wet as it Will desolve and melt the oolymer. A pump-spray bottle with degreaseing stuff and a Good rub with a rag Will prepare the carpet for Paint. Any solvet based Paint Will work. It Will not last forever. The pigment Will fall off eventually. But it's Quick and cheap. I use matte black rattle spray cans to refurbish my rubber floor mats everytime they turn Grey and Dirty. They look as New for a month and a can lasts for 3-4 resprays.

Thank you for your reply. In the end, I went for a cream carpet and returned the red one smile
