I'm struggling to find a decent tailor. I don't want to pay mental prices so that rules out most city centre tailors but there must be some that come recommended? I'm based in Manchester but can travel a bit.

I have used Richard Smith Bespoke in city centre next to House of Fraser. Not cheap but his work is spot on. Looking at around £700 for a tailored suit and about £900 for a bespoke suit. He also provides a tailoring service for making any of your own suits that little bit sharper, for about £100

Have used these guys twice - http://cheshiretailoring.co.uk/ Chester based, but David comes to your home or office for measuring, choosing of material etc...then fitting once made. Very pleased with product.

David is a classic 911 owner. Allow extra time for car chat...

A second recommendation for James Personal Tailor in Manchester.

Mike is actually on these boards, Tailor_Mike is his forum name, so drop him a PM.

Both he and his Dad do great work.

I'll declare an interest up front here as I am proud to say that mike and his dad are now good friends of mine...

As well as being fantastic tailors They are total petrol heads ...

And they won't blow their own trumpets, so I will for them...

I think I am right in saying that they are one of if not the only true bespoke tailors left in Manchester. That is they do the tailoring themselves, not send it out like some of the better known names in Manchester....

A visit to them is like a proper visit to the old saville row back in the day, they have been doing this for years, you see this when you look at the pictures of famous people who go there, not sure I should mention who ... I will check before I post up ... But proper skilled gents , nicely priced, but what i find is they have all the latest fabrics and patterns from their Saville row contacts.

Craft Tailoring in Liverpool. Old school bespoke tailor of the Savill Row variety. Walter is the owner. I have had ten bespoke suits over the last 10 years. Half the price of Savill Row, but not cheap. Around 1300 quid for jacket and two trousers. Around a month to make with measure up, mid fitting and final fitting.

Peter Harland in Liverpool is brilliant. He has only done alterations for me but I've seen his suits too.

+1 for James Personal Tailor in Manchester.

They altered a suit for me, and made subsequent changes on it for free on further fitting.
