As we are now officially in 2015 I opened my new diary page to enter the important dates for 2015 kit car shows or alternatives. Ouch!
No kit car pavilion at Auto sport
No Detling
No Exeter
No Malvern (first one cancelled)
No Newark
No Castle Coombe Kit Fest (first one cancelled)
No Donington, at least no news yet?
SEVEN DOWN AND JUST ONE LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I entered Stoneligh in my diary and then realised a massive opportunity has opened up for a new show, a show that revitalises the industry, a show perhaps that can break the mould of fields full of kit cars and little or no action or entertainment and and low gate take for organisers.
With virtually no where for kit car owners to go this year maybe just maybe at last it is possible to throw away that " I should get in free because my car adds to the show" routine and actually charge a small fee to KC owners that can be spent on making a great show.
Is this possible? Are we ready? I can't do it, I am a manufacturer, but there must be show organisers that can run with this if they were made aware of potential.
So is anyone going to step forward and open a new show this year, a proper show, with perhaps a drag strip or an auto test that everyone can have a go at, inter club competitions, prizes for best club display etc etc. Any other ideas very welcome. Lets hope someone is looking that can grasp this opportunity and do it. Please help spread the word.
Track action is probably cost prohibitive unless there is a low cost alternative. Brands Hatch and the likes can cost 40k for a weekend in the summer due to one firm owning most of the UK circuits that almost has a monopoly. Site suggestions? Events that may combine with kit cars suggestions? WOULD YOU PAY TO GET IN?

I know that lots of us with kits consider free entry to be the norm (and this may be based on historical precedence). My suggestion is that kit car drivers pay 50% of 'regular' entry price, the logic being that owners' cars do contribute something to the show but can we REALLY expect entry to be free? Presumably (as kit car owners) we gain some enjoyment/entertainment from being at the show, otherwise we wouldn't be there? Good reason for us to pay something. Happy New Year to all Kit Builders and car enthusiasts generally BTW!
Lets hope Donington is still happening, (CKC says date TBC in Sept) as 2014 Donington was a very busy show.

I would have thought any of the smaller track day airfields would be suitable.

Brunters, Abingdon, Hullavington etc.

I would pay to get in!

I always have, as I haven't managed to bring my Minari to a show yet (this year, this year!) and I won't have an issue paying again.

Should I be a kit car driver, I'd appreciate a discount, but won't necessarily need one to attend.

Action is a great idea, but fro me a show will still need to have some sort of "cars in a field" (or hall) aspect to the show - do the airfield venues have any suitable buildings / space?

Just seen this post I think I know of a possible opertunity there is a event called chomendely castle pagent of power that has a dedicated club car area that over the last couple of years numbers have dropped off as it clashes with lemans The event is a 3 day event with a hill climb and various other activities including camping site and bands last year had status quo one night The guy who organises the club side is called Russ ( high flyer) on piston heads he frequents the ultima forum This may be a option to give kit cars a new event :-)

I was rather gobsmacked at Kitfest Castle Combe being cancelled 2014 I think one of the factors that should also be considered is the 'exclusively kits' approach. Why on Earth do we not share????? I'm sure that there's plenty of other smallish sectors that would be happy to have an action day with another group of cars.

We've attended days for VWs, Minis, Supercars and Historics on countless occasions so I really don't get why the Kit Car Show organisers don't reach out to some other organisations and say 'hey how about we join up and share an action day?'

We are now in boom times again. Time to reinvest. BUT, we have also lost most of the men behind the scene that used to push hard and promote the shows. We no longer have John Cooke (Detling, Exeter, Harrogate) nor do we have Den Tanner (Stafford) or Kevin Musson (Newark) so we do need new blood not only at the shows but actually to provide the shows.
Combining shows is a great way forward, classic shows attract like minded people that really get the Replicar. Lots of kits offer the same attraction to those that have spent years trying to weld rusty bodies on classic cars. We just need to show them that they can throw away that old mig welder and build a new kit car for kicks. We can safely assume that IF we pay to get in that established vehicle shows will welcome us. So lets all go out PLEASE and speak to any show organiser you can. Let them know that the kit car show scene is now wide open and will undoubtedly embrace new opportunities. Who knows were this may lead. A bright future if we make it happen?
A skid pan, drift experience, doughnut and J turn training are other ideas that may attract new blood and also help to demonstrate that an entry fee can be used to offer a great time and good value.
Everyone has or can get one or more gazebo's and as a field is cheaper than an exhibition hall, less outlay, lower exhibitor costs equals more exhibitors and a bigger show.

Absolutely this. I'm sure the variety would be welcomed by virtually everyone from whatever niche they're in.

Hopefully we will have Donnington and another TKC Live.

Both I think offer something above a normal sit in a field show. One has racing the other rides in Kit Cars around the track

If TKC Live could be at Bruntingthorpe or somewhere else central and cost effective in the summer then it would be great!

Yes I would pay to get in to Stoneleigh, Donnington or TKC. £10 to get in I wouldn't notice after the beer, meat and rubbish I buy while I am at Stoneleigh!

I would be more than willing to pay if it was a track were we can get track action through the day and in the process showing potential new customers what the cars look like on the road.

How about a 'run what you brung' style hill climb event, supported by manufacturers stands, traders etc? Must be a hill climb venue that would host this?

There is a run what you brung hill climb it's at Prescott Hill Climb on August 9th called Prescott Revival.

All kit cars are welcome and you can have your own club our trade area, there is also going to be a big special kit car area this year.

Keep an eye on the web site information will appear soon and you can pre book your hill runs or contact the organisers if you are a club, trade or group and want space.

There's lots of info, pics and video on the web about this event.

Best of all it's free to get in.

It could be a good venue in my opinion and showing new kitcars in a different setting while having a chance to test them on site is a great idea. .

Looking forward to more info on this show.

Hi,

I do agree that cars that attend the show, should pay towards the event, 50% seems fair.

Hill climb would not interest me wse, but if that was the only way to attract people, Im in.

Sorry, don't know any show organisers, maybe try some of the other Kit Car forums.

Steve Hole did this a few years ago at Castle Comb on one of the action days there. He set up "Kit Kar Korner" and IIRC the only manufacturer who turned up was MK, who could not get through the draconaian sound level and went home. There was a few owners there but it was a real shame as Castle Combe in the past used to have a dedicated Kit car action day.

Personally I would pay a contribution to get in as I do not prescribe to the people who say without us there is no show, clearly there would be. We do need to piggy back on other shows going forward, the Action days are good, Classic shows or more of the Kit only track days that Complete Kit Car organise.
Cost is a major factor as to get the best response you need to be on a weekend where the track is most expensive, and to be honest, kit car drivers do stay away in droves at the first sign of rain, so there is a huge financial risk.

We are going through what the American Hot Rodder shows have gone through. Where the rice burner generation did not get hot rods, but by getting out there and making people aware it has survived and now is thriving again.
We in the UK also have the legislation and anti car brigades to deal with, who don't like noise, don't like the suggestion of speed and as far as the EU is concerned, don't like people who do not conform to the ideal.

Unless we support shows and organisers we will only have the one show in years to come.

Problem solved. The event is called Ten of the Best. Its in July at Elvington airfield. Teams clubs or individuals can compete. There is miles of hardstanding for trade and clubs. You can do show n shine. You can also race on the 1/4m and do single car handling circuit sprints. Duncan cowper and his dax rush has already won the handling event before. Trevor Duckworth and Dave Naxton run it and are actively looking for more clubs cars traders and the like. The existing audience love cars and modifying.
Need i go on lol?

Hello all
Thanks V8yes for the post
Yes after 2 successful years due to decent weather and I like to think with my contribution to car clubs at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power I have been asked to do it again in 2015 therefore if people can give me an idea of numbers I will reserve a pitch for Kit Cars unfortunately the organisers have not come around to my way of thinking yet regards we are displaying our cars to bring in the public so there is a charge but I am sure that I will be able to half the cost from the original entrance fee through clubs and discount codes.
The rules state that cars have to be in by 8.30 and can't leave until late pm I do understand delays and needs to leave early so please don' be put off as these rules don't apply to car clubs. this is a great event with plenty to do and see, check out the web site, any questions please mail me.
If we can get an idea of numbers either as a club ie Westfield, cobra, etc or an individual, early enough then I will be able to reserve a large pitch in a decent position for you
Kind regards
Russell

FANTASTIC NEWS, many thanks for stepping forward Russell. At "car fest" they limit the numbers by asking for applications from each make, once approved they charge a discount rate for 7 cars from each marque. This approach works very well. You could invite a club that represents each marque to "book" 10 spaces. The advantage here is that the clubs will try to get the best examples of their chosen manufacturer on display thus potentially improving the overall impact. There will be an accessory supplier that will come on board and present a gift voucher or crate of beers for the best club display. Failing that I will be happy to supply the prize. (no not a MEV gift voucher!)

If you go with this idea then it is very easy to access the clubs via the magazine lists, TKC for example.
Click them an email and see how many respond. Again many thanks, for this true breath of fresh air.
So can I start please and book a 10 spaces for MEV owners?

That's a great idea but everybody is welcome I have an area set asside for cars that haven't come with a club and an overflow park, as far as trades they usually need to apply to the Cholmondeley POP event because they charge for the pitch which is in a completely different area but if they want to be in car clubs which is outside the track and not in the main trade area then I will arrange that within clubs no problem especially if they are providing prizes but it will have to include all clubs and not just kit cars otherwise it is going to cause a massive headache
Regards Russell
