Cerbera Prices / Desirability
Discussion
In this current age, how well would you rate the desirability of a Cerbera. Not just on its own, but compared to other TVR models too.
And what approx price range for engine / age / condition?
The reason I'm asking this really is because I have been trying to sell mine for about year now and haven't had any luck.
I'm not going to say which Cerb I have, though I will say that after having a quick browse through a few sites this morning there are NO other 4.5 Cerbs for sale (apart from the race car) and none in the same colour as mine, which is also quite rare, but would thought to be a desirable colour.
With these qualities, it was also one of the cheapest for sale. I mean going from the classifieds on Pistonheads, there are only currently 4 for sale that are cheaper than what I had listed - and two of them aren't even mainland UK.
It is quite frustrating. I do need the car sold and don't want to give it away.
I cant really hold out on another year, and as much as I hate to say it, wewantanycar offered £11,000.
I don't think I would ever do that, I know the car is worth SO much more.
There's times where I can go on the classifieds and see cerberas and other tvr models been advertised for ages too so its obviously not just my car.
I understand that the right person needs to be after a TVR in the first place, but would never of thought such a car like the Cerb would be so difficult to sell, let alone list it at a fairly low price.

One suggestion, have a ring around the TVR specialists and see if they have anyone looking to buy Cerbs. I have found that buyers do sometimes visit dealerships and ask them to keep an eye out for X cars. You won't get as much as a private sale certainly, but you might be able to sell it quicker.
I'd love a TVR but I agree with the above, it has quite a big risk factor, parts seem to be troublesome to get hold of and they are quite expensive. The car itself is also very expensive when you consider what else is out there. It seems to me that it takes an enthusiast who isn't afraid of a spanner to own one. One day I will have mine but that's just how I see it from the point of view of someone who hasn't owned one yet.
It probably doesn't help that you are in Scotland. When I was looking I only bothered with cars I could get to in under 2 hours.
The values are very difficult to judge as there is so much luck involved. A £12k car with no service record might prove to be almost totally reliable (mine did) whilst a £20k car might blow its engine within a month.

Roverload, parts are actually very easily available and there are many many specialists to help those not able to spanner. Like me !And for the excitement and speed and looks I think they are cheap. What else for 20k is as exciting and delivers such an all round package.
Keeping on top of maintenance is another story but get a good one and life will be sweet.
Distance shouldn't be a problem for the right car, I searched and learnt for almost 2 years before buying mine , when I waited/found the one I wanted I travelled 500 miles to get it!
Jumped on a plane to Dundee and drove it all the way back to London, although I was buying through tvr ecosse.

Having recently become a Cerb owner myself, maybe I can help.
I wasn't actively searching for one, but I had in my mind what I was looking for. In my case it was a speed 6 with evidence that the engine was sound and the chassis wasn't about to fall apart. I also was after a nice colour scheme both inside and out.
The ad for mine is still available on ebay so here's the link
This advert positively leapt out from the others for the wealth of information, that the owner clearly loved the car, and when I spoke to him, he gave me a very good reason for selling.
I was NOT expecting perfection and I would seriously advise against trying to present your car as such, unless it truly is top notch! Talk about the stuff you've worked on or had done, the flaws and emphasise the ease with which they could be fixed, but explain why you haven't done it. Promote your experience of your car which contradicts the "expert" opinions out there (eg always breaking down). Address concerns any buyer will have about the "common problems" associated with your car.
Maybe mention the RS-AJP app and how your car is running perfectly and that you can show any potential buyer simply by plugging in your/their phone (lambdas hovering about 1 and adaptives within 10% of zero). If you're selling to a TVR virgin, they're very likely unaware of the app.
The TVR Cerbera is not an expensive car to run. I regularly read talk of budgeting however many thousands per year to maintain them. If you're happy to get dirt under your fingernails, it's actually a pretty simple car to learn, with an active support network of specialists and enthusiasts and parts avaiability.
Oh, and be realistic in your asking price (FYI I drove 300 miles to get mine and I did not buy it for the advertised price. feel free to PM me for more info.)

Windscreens
Blocks
Air boxes
New Chassis.
Thats about all I can think that are difficult. All apart from windscreens can be repaired or bought second hand (and repaired).
Nope. Chassis can be bought brand new for under three grand. Never heard of needing a block before, They are repairable and have good, respected specialists that can provide said service. Everything else in your list is available. There aren't many other options at the cerbs current price point that would deliver the same performance.....Blocks
Air boxes
New Chassis.

OK I had no idea that they had got sources of OE spec air boxes (only carbon ACT).
Who is doing the new chassis for Cerbs. Didnt know that had happened.
I understood windscreens werent avail and hadnt been for a while.
Blocks (and heads?) thought new supplies had dried up. I have seen a few cerbs destroy heads and / or blocks. I managed to destroy heads on Cerb 1.
So I vote these arent avail and I cant see anywhere that they are.

As said..act for air boxes, or any half-decent fibreglass specialist...
Chassis under 3k (no affiliation) from these guys.. https://m.facebook.com/vtautomotive
'Screens..as above
Blocks....how many people have needed a new block?

So I dont want to argue but you cant buy the air boxes unless you buy an expensive carbon version or get one made or buy a 2nd hand one ie OE arent avail.Chassis under 3k (no affiliation) from these guys.. https://m.facebook.com/vtautomotive

I personally wouldnt buy a chassis from them unless I'd seen one supplied and fitted to another car (and they are in hungary!)
Do they do screens? Again I see chassis comment above.
Blocks - I can recall two or three on here so I suspect its well into double figures - same with heads.
So I stand by my examples of not readily supplied parts but like most parts you can get someone to make you one or buy a non original spec version.
