Hi All
In late June , planning a road trip in our new S4 .
Based in Edinburgh ,so getting the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam , then driving to just south of Siena to a hotel for a week.
1 week in the hotel ,and 2 nights stopping off on the way , and 2 on the way back ,not including the ferry overnight.
looking for scenic , but not too far out the way routes !
Help much appreciated
Thanks
Andy

Can't really help with the route, but Siena, lovely lovely place, also I really enjoyed Lucca which I'm guessing you might drive near.
Enjoy. smile

I have driven to Siena a number of times ; typically we would take the Route Napoleon through the Alpes Maritimes there and on the way home we would go through the Italian Lakes and then we would try something like the Sustenpass in Switzerland .

Siena is my favourite Italian city- it feels like you are in a film set , the food is terrific and the art and architecture breathtaking. Worth buying some Panforte di Siena from Nanninis - as in Alessandro, the former F1 Benetton driver. Some great driving roads in Tuscany - we'd also normally try to take in a trip to Maranello and a blast across the Raticosa. Love to say we really pushed the limit in our 911GT3 but trips made in mundane things like Golfs and Peugeots.

Finally - one glorious town I can recommend which is less touristy than most is Volterra - which I recall for sublime food eaten whilst watching nuns crossing the town square and with our meal being served by a girl who I am pretty certain was an Etruscan goddess....

Should you follow this advice, if you don't have other suggestions, I would recommend you the Osteria del Duca.
I've been there a couple of times and it's always been excellent.

ETA: I just saw that you plan to go there in June. They have a nice garden on the back and if you order the Fiorentina steak they will prepare it in front of you
