Anyone heard of this before?
I got a call from my brother (who's not in the slightest bit PH...) at the weekend saying the washers on his 13 plate Zafira weren't working. Suggested taking it to a dealer as I suspected it would be a motor fault. He didn't want to until the fuse had been checked. Went to have a look & from the wiring diagram he had it was either number 7 or 8 in the engine bay fusebox that handled the washers (10A one). Pulled it & sure enough, open circuit when tested on a multimeter. Replaced it, but still no joy. As the car's under warranty, told him to take it to a dealer, so his Mrs took it in today. Dealer has a big sign up in the service area saying "Due to freezing weather conditions Vauxhall will not cover blown fuses on window washers! We can supply and fit a new fuse for £15.00 inc vat" - now, apart from the ripoff pricing, I've never heard of anything like this before. Supposedly, the washer bottle on those cars is prone to freezing, causing the fuse to blow & shouldn't be used when it's cold! Sounds like complete BS to me - anyone else heard a similar story?
We've had a series of Skodas (pre VW!), Citroens & Fords in the family and none have ever experienced this sort of problem, at worst a frozen washer line would cause the pump to run but no fluid to come out.
Apparently the dealer did "something" which made it work and didn't charge for a fuse, but we've no idea what....
I've told him to increase the concentration of the screenwash to see if that helps, but the whole things just sounds bizarre.
