I'm off to the big apple next weekend for a couple of days for a concert and wondered if anyone could give me some ideas for eating out? I'm staying in Soho at the Trump Soho and I'm open to suggestions. I enjoy all kinds of food, from street food to Michelin stared. I'd prefer to miss out touristy chains.

Thanks for that. I would love to try some great pastrami or salt beef sandwiches at a deli if anyone has any recommendations?

There are some interesting looking places in Chelsea Market, I also enjoyed the Korean BBQ in Korea town but my favourite meal whilst I was there was at Hill Country.

Brooklyn Bowl for fried chicken, and a good night out if you're into bars, bands and bowling.

Try The Pig, Minetta Tavern, Grammercy Tavern, ABC Kitchen (and the Mexican one in the same building), The Strip House downtown for steak, and Bar Masa. For very expensive but great food try restaurant Masa (sit at the counter) and Per Se.

Sombrero's, just off Times Square, does amazing Mexican food and monster portions. Also, the best Greek restaurant I've ever eaten at is near the Lincoln Centre, on the wesr side of 10th. I'll have a look on Google tomorrow to see if I can find the name. Best Greek salad and gyros I've ever had in my life.

NY changes by the minute. Here is the NYT ten best of 2014:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/31/dining/nyc-best-... Cherche Midi is a new place from Keith McNally which is itself a recommendation, ( he runs Balthazar) and not too from from you)...

Yes. It is very good, and by far the easiest higher end reservation in NYC to score.

I concur on Katz's. Also Russ and Daughters had a great new cafe/deli near their store. No reservations, of course.

Eleven madison is 28 days in advance.

I used my amex concierge the first time , booked direct the second time on a week or so's notice. They do pop up on opentable too and are most helpful over the phone.
It is also the most relaxed of all the high end NYC restaurants for dress code- places like Per Se (which is very good, particularly the service), Daniel (not a fan personally) and The Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare (amazing food, but one of the hardest reservations to get anywhere) are all strictly dress shoes, slacks, shirt, jacket etc, with no leway whatsoever.
Eleven Madison is much more relaxed smile
