Just went to the Gas Station and found the locking petrol cap on my sag wouldn't unlock - finally creaked into life after a lot of persuasion and is now sitting with the lock full of oil as it won't budge at all- anyone else had one that's seized solid?

Hi Jasper

Is it the lock which is the issue or the turning of the cap?

I did have the lock get very stiff on me once, but after a dose
of WD40 it did not have any issues.

I assumed it was a bit of dirt of rust in the lock mechanism itself.

Thanks

RAS

Jasper, if you mean the key barrel I had a similar problem when I first bought mine. There was no key with the car so the previous owne/s had not been locking the cap. I obtained keys from Newtown Equipment and after a couple of days soaking in Plusgas it freed itself. The very helpful guy at Newtown told me that if Plusgas didn't work its possible to very carefully remove the circlip at the end of the barrel and tap the tumblers out to clean them. If that fails Newtown still supply the cap.

This happened to me once too with my Sag! A tad embarassing on the forecourt but a squirt of WD40 to release it and then a fill of white grease and it has never happened again. Remember to wipe the key clean after each withdrawal for a while after lubrication. Oooh matron!

Mine locked in the open setting, so real problems apart from so one nicking fuel.
