Well done. What's the story? Course, hole, club, strike, bounces etc.? You can't just leave it there.
First shot of the day, local course, 6th hole (we skipped a large group) 120 metre par 3, tiny but helpful tailwind, pitching wedge, lobbed high, 8ft past the hole and spun back in.I didn't see it, the pin was in the way, another player did and shouted "It's in it's in it's in, yeeeaaaahhhh!"
Cost me 2 bottles of wine and a bottle of gin back at my place and everyone wobbled home happy

I never usually win anything, but won 6 trial Bridgestone balls in a comp in Bunkered magazine. Look forward to giving them a whirl as I loved the old B330S.
Hopefully not the only high point of the 2015 golfing season, but am finding it so hard to shift the putter stutters......... 42 putts was my last round!!!!!!!!! Candidate for that book perhaps, but putt fine when practicing just entire short game goes to st on the course

After a fairly horrid session on the range yesterday, I was ready to call a halt to my attempt to learn this sport. But this morning dawned fair and I decided to head down early to my local course and get out before anyone else.
Lost two balls in the first two holes but then started to relax and hit the ball a bit better and on the par 4 fourth, I got a par. Then on the sixth a birdie! To my amazement, I then got another par on the eighth and another birdie on the 11th!
Lots of sixes and sevens in amongst the highlights but all in all I'm feeling pretty damned chuffed with myself right now.
I'm playing again tomorrow with a friend who plays off 12 so hopefully I can replicate some of todays success!

Playing with better players is a great way to learn. Don't be afraid to ask for advice.
Thanks chaps. I really need to figure out how to hit mid irons out of the semi rough as that is what is costing me most shots at the moment. I think I'm worried about only being able to see the top half of the ball and that I might top it. My practice swing always seems nice with just the right swish through the grass but then when it comes to the shot I get panicky and end up with a divot the size of Wales and the ball only going half the distance I needed.
I'm sure that no amount of work on the range mats is going to help me learn how to deal with these shots but I don't really have a suitable 200yd long lawn to practice on either.

A spun-back wedge hole-in-one has got to be up there with the best ways to do it I didn't see it, the pin was in the way, another player did and shouted "It's in it's in it's in, yeeeaaaahhhh!"

That or a flushed long-iron would be the holy grail for me.
I know most people would say that any hole-in-one would be welcomed, 'no pictures on a score card' and all that but it would genuinely annoy me for eternity if my only hole-in-one was thinned at the flag stick or fatted and rolled in

It'll all come back to the ball-strike really.I'm sure that no amount of work on the range mats is going to help me learn how to deal with these shots but I don't really have a suitable 200yd long lawn to practice on either.
Yes the long grass can snag and perhaps close the face a bit, or get between the club face and the ball and produce a bit of a flyer but if you're hitting ball before turf, you should still be able to get it out and get reasonable distance.
ETA: Depending on the length / thickness of the grass, you perhaps shouldn't be looking to take a mid-iron anyway. Try taking no more than an 8i, getting out of the rough while making some half-decent forward progress and play from there.

Heading off to Wentworth on Saturday. Great venue for spectators (go every year). Just a shame we don't have more European Tour Events in England. Bit poor form of Poulter not to play this year.
Big Robert Karlsson currently tops the leaderboard at 5 under
Lovely stuff! Might try and get over there next year. Went to the Volvo Matchplay last year and watching some of the best in the world knock it around is definitely impressive!Big Robert Karlsson currently tops the leaderboard at 5 under
Shame about Poulter but i think he's trying to be selfish and elevate himself in the US so he can win more PGA tour events. Pretty sure he only has 2 to his name? Although he has mentioned on twitter he'll be hosting the British Open which is great to see, can hopefully help to grow the game!

Got Sky-go out on my iPhone. Looks like Rory could be struggling to make the cut. The chaps in the commentary box putting it down to 'fatigue'. Maybe the poor guy is just having an off week? Everyone has them. His own high standards looking like his worst enemy at times.
I have it on at work - he's playing OK. Just hit a lovely wedge from 100 yards which should see a birdie.Plenty of other top players struggling to post a score - Rose, Els, Westwood, Donaldson, Gmac, Clarke, etc.
