It seems to be one of the few awd quick estates out there at the moment. With the exception of the new polestars they are very few and far between but there is one in Preston currently.
Any horror stories on the 10/11 plate models?

You should have no problem with ownership of one of these cars at all.

They share the same floor pan and some suspension components as the Mondeo and a couple of US Fords. The engine is made at Ford's Bridgend plant and the auto box is AW.

There are one or two really excellent Volvo dealers together with some real dross and some good specialists. You will find plenty of information on the VOC site www.volvoforums.org.uk and some lively more performance oriented company at www.t5d5.org

What you should be aware of is that these cars depreciate very heavily indeed and you should strike a very hard bargain both for a used one and new, dealers do discount very heavily, not on the worthy but greedily priced 'polestars' though which are just not selling and gathering dust, paid for in the more gullible dealers' premises.

If enhancing engine outputs is your bag you should be aware of Volvo's appalling pincode banditry which makes it quite difficult to install aftermarket software of your choice unless you buy the workaday polestar branded stuff available only from a dealer.

Don.

PS. Just noticed where you are..... make your way to MRG in Chippenham, Volvo's peerless outlet.... now Subaru too due to the crass stupidity of Volvo's top management here in the UK, you will not regret it....

I'm nowhere near Chippenham but I still make the annual pilgrimage.

Interesting. We had our Impreza serviced at MRG last year as they were willing to match the old main dealers price. They were very good, although my wife was a little underwhelmed with the loan car but she is used to the pace of the scooby. But hey it a loan car.
So what's so good about them from the Volvo side?

The 2011 and newer T6 has 304bhp as opposed to the earlier 285bhp (on other variants) and I don't believe there's a huge amount that can go wrong with them. The auto box is sluggish and it is worth trying to get an R-Design one as they do handle better. You can of course treat the car to a Polestar upgrade if you wish which will take it up to around 330bhp, which does improve the overall driveability too.

Oh and before I forget, you can retrofit the suspension from the Polestar Limited Edition cars (which is really very impressive) for around £2500 (springs, shocks, roll bars etc.) using Genuine Volvo parts if you do a little bit of trawling online.

Make sure the Haldex AWD system has been regularly serviced - they like frequent oil changes to keep them working properly - if it has been serviced to the correct schedule these should have been done
