Having to wait till pay day before you can afford something.
This is the thing that pisses me off with this place summed up in one sentence, this PH in-joke air of 'I can afford anything anytime, you, you're over there, you cant'

I'm sure some can, but I'm equally sure many people on here cant, and to use someone else's phrase that I liked, you cut your cloth accordingly. There's nothing wrong with that.

Looking down on people because they cant afford something you can is a bit ttty, moreso when it's said in some kind of distancing jest, and still more when the person saying it probably cant do anything anytime, and is saying it to somehow look cool and smug. Well, you look like a . Have a bit of humility.
This whole thread is satirical, now climb down from that moral high ground.

Being chavvy isn't about what you have or what you can afford, it's about lacking a bit of common sense.

A suit or nice trousers and pullover could be had for far less than some stty nike tracksuit but I kid you not somebody turned up at a place I worked at for an interview in one.

The tatoo on his neck probably cost more than the car I was driving at the time so it was not about who had more.

He wasn't just a bit council he couldn't even be arsed to show a potential employer that he would make even the slightest effort on himself let alone the company.

fk me.. Didn't know there was so many tossers on PH's until I read this thread.
Typical comment from a past Subaru owner - definitely council.

I didn't know PH's had turned into mocking people that can only afford to live in council accommodation. And for the record I had my P1 at 21... Not the cheapest thing to own at that age.

Why are you even on PH's if you think a car as rated as a Subaru P1 is 'a bit council'?

Looking down ones nose in a condescending manner and sneering at those less fortunate than themselves is as crass and as 'council' as you can get. Just sit back and enjoy the irony! thumbup
Very well said you two.

The piss-taking tends to be about taste or lifestyle rather than wealth.

But then I'm skint and I have a washing up bowl so maybe it's just wishful thinking. I'm the king of that, just ask Go West.

If The Lad Bible was a car, it'd be the white limited edition Corsa.

Timeout peeps. Yes, alot of the posters on here (myself included) are council. Yes it is 'ironic'. I am sorry you have had sense of humour bypass but please don't derail the thread (yes that is ironic of me also).

Some of the posts miss the mark but self reflection and others reflecting on 'council' trends, neighbourhood and family habits can be very funny in the same way that the 'private' thread highlights the same for those with a bit of money and wear red trousers to work.

At the same time there are many things pointed out in this thread that I cringe at because while myself and family are council we have never (and will never) do some of the things listed in this thread *but* I know people that have i.e. the one about the woman who buys a dog to replace her boyfriend and then lets it bark all day and all night while it soils the entire neighbourhood had me in tears.

As you were.....

No, fk you - that's an excuse for being called out on badly mis-reading the mood of life in general. It's not satirical, and in general terms, it's not funny. Whether you're looking at council, chavs, travelling brothers or other, one thing you dont do is find a limitless point of shaming people, in this case what people can afford. That doesnt denote council people, it brushes through a lot of people from all walks of life. If you thought what you wrote was funny, that says you really dont get it

If you can be arsed to look, further back in the thread you'll see comments from me too on council vs others differences. So I'm not on some moral high ground to defend the rights of our council estate brethren and their wonderful ways.

Your comment summed up a lot of what I see is a common attitude on here from posters either unable to deal with or recognise a changed world around many people on here, who see life pretty much as their village and overpriced lattes on the commute to work, blind to what's actually going on. Or they think they're associated with pedastalled richer types and desperately want to fit in, to somehow elevate themselves in others minds

It's always been suggested that PH is self moderating, and I've always assumed that this is to stop the txttyper nutters being able to run riot, but now, lately, the sneerers, the loadsacash mentality, the I'm better than you attitudes seem to be everywhere, and I dont like it. It creates a divide that doesnt need to be there, isnt actually there other than in the minds of people who want to look that they're doing so well, which is sad as no-one needs to keep up appearances
